The American tenor, Benjamin South, recently graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from the University of North Alabama (UNA) (2018-May 2022); he is now pursuing a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy at Ohio University (since August 2022; expected graduation: May 2024). At Ohio University, he is working as a graduate teaching assistant (August 2019-October 2021), teaching applied voice lessons to majors and non-majors. While in his undergraduate program, he was named as a Promising Alumni and the Outstanding Senior in the Fine and Performing Arts for the 2021-2022 graduating class. He studies with Dr. Daniel Stein.
Benjamin South served as the tenor section leader in the UNA Chamber Choir. He has received first place in his category for classical singing at the Alabama National Association of Teachers of Singing for the past three years (2020-2022). This past summer, he performed, arranged, and taught at the Lutheran Summer Music Festival at Valparaiso University (June-July 2022). In past summers, he has attended workshops in singing and conducting at New York University (June 2020), Louisiana State University (June 2018), and West Chester University (June 2019). His performance credits include: Nemorino in Gaetano Donizetti's The Elixir of Love (UNA Opera/Musical Theatre, May 2022); T-Boy in Libby Larsen's The Silver Fox (UNA Opera/Musical Theatre, May 2021); Assistant Conductor in Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw (UNA Opera/Musical Theatre); Assistant Music Director in Howard Ashman's Little Shop of Horrors (UNA Summer Theatre). He currently lives in Athens, Ohio. |
