The American baritone and music pedagogue, Jeffrey Snider, obtained his Bachelor of Music degee in Voice Performance (1979-1983) and his Master of Music degree (with distinction) in Voice and Opera (1979-1983), both from from Indiana University Bloomington. He received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Music Performance from the University of North Texas, where he also studied Choral Conducting (1985-1986).
Jeffrey Snider was staff singer at Fort Worth Opera for 18 years (1986-2004). He was also Principal Artist at Utah Festival Opera in Logan (2012), where he sang the role of Scarpia in Puccini’s Tosca. His other operatic roles include, Iago in Verdi’s Otello and Ping in Puccini’s Turandot in concert performances at the University of North Texas, and the title role in Verdi’s Falstaff with Diversità Opera in Dallas.
Jeffrey Snider has served as Music director at First Presbyterian Church in Denton, Texas (2002-2014); and Music Director at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Denton, Texas for 7 years (January 2015-December 2021); and Choral Director at First Presbyterian Church in Plano, Texas (since January 2025). His recent concert appearances include the title role in Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah at Rhodes college in Memphis, Tennessee and the baritone solo in L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with the Johns Creek (Georgia USA) Symphony Orchestra. He is the baritone soloist on the Klavier recording of Orff’s Carmina Burana with the University of North Texas Wind Symphony and Grand Chorus. Of this performance J.F. Weber of Fanfare magazine writes, "this is one of the finest…male soloists I have ever heard in this work."
In the music education field, Jeffrey Snider has served as Teaching Fellow (Studio Voice) at University of North Texas (1985-1988); Visiting Assistant Professor at University of Texas in the College of Music at Arlington (September 1988-May 1991); Associate Professor of Voice at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa (September 1991-May 1998); and as Associate Professor, Division of Vocal Studies at University of North Texas (since September 1998). He currently lives in Denton, Texas. |
