Milan Siljanov (Bass-Baritone)

Born: Switzerland

The Swiss bass-baritone, Milan Siljanov, a Samling Artist, studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (Opera Course) under the tutelage of Professor Rudolf Piernay. He is the winner of the prestigious Wigmore Hall/Kohn Foundation International Song Competition in London in 2015. In 2014, he was awarded both the first prize and audience prize at the 50th International Vocal Competition in Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands. He was a finalist in the Guildhall School of Music & Drama “Gold Medal” 2015 and is the recipient of the Independent Opera Voice Fellowship. His studies have been generously supported by The Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers and the Independent Opera Voice Scholarship.

Milan Siljanov has worked with conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Kirill Petrenko, Constatinos Carydis, Ivor Bolton, Ingo Metzmacher, Joshua Weilerstein and Simone Young.

Recent engagements include Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur at the Verbier Festival under the baton of Valery Gergiev, L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and Haydn’s Nelson Mass with Orchestre National de Lyon. Highlights of the 2018-2019 season include Winterreise at the Cambridge Music Festival, Haydn’s Nelson Mass at Staatskapelle Dresden under the baton of Omer Meir Wellber, a celebration of Carl Loewe with the Internationale Hugo Wolf Academy at Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, and recitals at the Oxford Lieder Festival and Wigmore Hall with pianist Nino Chokhonelidze.

Milan Siljanov is currently in the ensemble of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. Starting his first season in the ensemble of the Bavarian State Opera, he will perform the role of Antonio in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Nachtwächter in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Čekunov in From the House of the Dead, Montano in Otello, Peter Besenbinder in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel, Sprecher in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Schaunard in La bohème, and Ein Cappadocier in Salome.
