Pharel Silaban (Tenor)

Born: Medan, Indonesia

The Indonesian tenor, Pharel Jonathan J. Silaban, obtained his Bachelor of Economic Accounting degree from University of Indonesia in Indonesia in 2013. After being named as the 1st Prize Winner of Indonesia Classical Singing Competition at the University Level in 2010, it exposed him into the early stages of his professional career as classical singer. He also involved into several opera roles in Indonesia and International level. He obtained his Graduate Diploma in Vocal Performance from Royal College of Music in London (2016); and his Master of Music degree in in Performance & Literature from Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester in New York (2019). He also attended Easter Workshop British Youth Opera in London (2016); and Summer Program Si parla, si canta! in Urbania, Italy (2018). Coachers/Teachers include: Marilyn Taylor, Jonathan Sidden, Jan Opalach, Chris Merritt, René Barbera.

Bach's Cantata BWV 102 Herr, deine Augen sehen nach dem Glauben (Eastman School of Music, 2018); Soloist in A. Bruckner's Requiem D Minor, WAB. 39 (Eastman School of Music, 2019); Recital A Night of American Art Song (U.S. Embassy’s American Center @america, Jakarta, 2020).

Pharel Silaban is now embracing full-time Professional Singing and also as the founder of Karya Vocal Studio to provide a more sustainable & scientific approach of vocal learning in Indonesia. He also studies for Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance - Voice at University of Kentucky School of Music (since January 2023).
