S Joshua Sheppard (Baritone)

Born: September 21, 1997 - USA

The American baritone, S Joshua Sheppard, received his Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from Vanderbilt University where he studied voice with Amy K Jarman. He currently lives in Rochester, New York, where obtained his Masters of Music degree from Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester (2020-2022), studying voice with world renowned tenor, Anthony Dean Griffey.

S Joshua Sheppard has been privileged to interpret a number of operatic roles such as Melisso in George Frideric Handel's Alcina (Eastman Opera Thetare, February 2023), Giove in Cavalli’s La Calisto (EOT, April 2022), The Sodbuster in Missy Mazolli’s Proving Up (EOT, November 2021), Mr. Greatorex/Gissing/Etcher/Off-Gerad in Kevin Putt’s Elizabeth Cree (EOT, July-August 2021), Edmund in Jonathan Dove’s Mansfield Park, Figaro in W.A. Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Dr. Sciarrone in Puccini’s Tosca, and Bartolo in W.A. Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. He has also performed in a number of musical theater and operetta roles including as the Narrator/Mysterious Man in Sondheim’s Into the Woods (EOT, April 2022), Dr. Pangloss/Cacambo in Leonard Bernstein’s Candide, Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, Bert in Mary Poppins, Donkey in Shrek the Musical, and Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast.

S Joshua Sheppard is an active concert singer having performed as a soloist in a number of works including G.F. Handel's Messiah, J.S. Bach Cantata BWV 140, J.S. Bach Cantata BWV 101 (Eastman School of Music: Bach Cantata Series, March 2021), C. Orff's Carmina Burana, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244), and W.A. Mozart's Coronation Mass. He has performed with a number of choral ensembles including the Nashville Symphony Chorus, Vanderbilt Chorale, Eastman Chorale (Director: William Weinert), St. George’s Episcopal Choir in Nashville (October 2019-2020), Rochester’s Third Prebyterian Choir, Assumption Parish Choir in Nashville, Belle-Ile Chorus, the NJ All State Choir, Millville Chamber Choir and Army Field Chorus as a guest musician. He has 10 years of experience as a section leader in various choral ensembles.

S Joshua Sheppard currently teaches secondary voice at the Eastman School of Music. He also privately teaches voice, musicianship, and piano. He works with students of all ages and strives to cultivate a creative and cooperative space that helps students to achieve musical excellence. He aims to take a student-centric approach and is rewarded by helping students to meet their individual goals and needs.
