The Austrian bass, Thomas Schneider, gained his first stage experience as a boy soloist with the Salzburger Domkapellknaben. He initially studied singing with Albert Hartinger at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, followed by studies with Robert Holzer and Kurt Azesberger at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität in Linz. He received further musical inspiration from, among others, Ulrike Hofbauer, Reinhard Goebel, Howard Arman, Lorenzo Ghielmi, and Michi Gaigg.
As a concert soloist, Thomas Schneider has sung works such as W.A. Mozart's Requiem in D minor, Arvo Pärt's Passio Domini nostri Jesu Christi secundum Joannem, Heinrich Schütz's Musikalische Exequien, and works by J.S. Bach including the Cantata Ich habe genug BWV 82, Cantata Actus Tragicus BWV 106, Magnificat in D major BWV 243, Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248, and Johannes-Passion BWV 245. In the summer of 2015, he appeared as a choral soloist at the Salzburg Festival with the Salzburger Bachchor in L.v. Beethoven's Choral Fantasy under the direction of Rudolf Buchbinder.
On the opera stage, Thomas Schneider has performed as Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Pimpinone in Georg Philipp Telemann's opera of the same name, Ariodate in George Frideric Handel's Xerxes, and Melisso in G.F. Handel's Alcina in productions of the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität. As part of the 2016 Bruckner Festival, he sang the bass part in Viktor Ullmann's Der Kaiser von Atlantis at the Tabakfabrik Linz. In 2018, he performed with the Austrian Ensemble for New Music (OENM) at ARGE Salzburg as part of the "Hymns and Songs for the 21st Century" project. Since 2005, he has been a permanent bass member of the Collegium Vocale Salzburg. With his vocal ensemble Voices Unlimited, he has been working with a wide variety of a cappella music for male voices since 2003. |
