Ariana Russo (Soprano)

Born: Amadora, Portugal

The Portuguese soprano, Ariana Moutinho Russo, began her musical studies at the Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa, holds a Singing Degree from the Conservatório Naciona, and a degree in Singing from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (Class of 2012)), having studied in Germany through the ERASMUS program. In 2016, she completed a Master's degree in Music Education, specializing in Singing, at the Instituto Piaget do ISEIT de Almada. She has a degree in Technological Chemistry from the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa. She has participated in master-classes and workshops on interpretation with Maestro João Paulo Santos, Maestro Armando Vidal, Claire Vangelisti, João Lourenço, Isabel Alcobia, Susan McCullogh (Abingdon Summer Academy, England), Jill Feldman, Orlanda Velez Isidro, Lúcia Mazzaria, Susan Waters and Tom Krause. She actively participated in Helene Schneiderman's class at the Internationale Sommerakademie Universität Mozarteum Salzburg 2015.

Ariana Russo worked for two years as a music teacher Atividades Extra Curriculares (AEC) and, since 2014, has taught Vocal Technique at the Academia de Música de Almada. She has been a member of the Coro Gulbenkian since 2008 and the Officium Ensemble since 2014. Her choral experience includes work in opera and oratorio with the Orquestra do Algarve, Orquestra do Norte, Orquestra do Ginásio Ópera, Festival de Sintra, Festival de Ópera de Óbidos, Alma Ensemble and Ensemble São Tomás de Aquino. She was part of the cast of Stephen Sondheim's musical Sweeney Todd at the Teatro Aberto (2007) and Francis Poulenc's opera Les dialogues des Carmélites under the direction of João Paulo Santos at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos (2016).

As a soloist, Ariana Russo has sung in Haydn's Missa Brevis, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert, Carlos Seixas's Mass in G, Fernando Lopes-Graça's Christmas Carols, Camille Saint-Saëns' Oratorio de Noël, J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 61, Jorge Salgueiro's O Achamento do Brasil e O Conquistador, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, Heitor Villa-Lobos' Bachiana No. 5, and also chamber music recitals. She debuted in the role of 2nd Woman in Purcell's opera Dido and Aeneas, and performed The Fire in Ravel's L'enfant et les Sortiléges, as well as The Prince in Massenet's Cendrillon, Semele in Cavalli's L'Egisto, 1st Woman in Ayres de Abreu's opera Ainda não vi suas mãos (world premiere), Fillide in A. Miro's opera Il sogno dello Zingano, Lisetta in Avondano's Il mondo della Luna, and Berta in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia.
