The Chilean tenor and vocal instructor, Iván Andrés Rodríguez Garretón, began his vocal studies with Carlos Bustamante Bonelli in 1991. He studied at Universidad de Concepción (1989-1993). In 2000, he moved to Santiago and continued his studies at the Universidad de Chile as an external student in Professor Hanns Stein's singing class and later with Patricio Méndez.
From 2000 until May 2013, Iván Rodriguez was a member of the tenor section of the Camerata Vocal de la Universidad de Chile, a chamber ensemble composed solely of professional singers. He also served as vocal instructor for the tenor section of the University's Coro Sinfónico. Currently residing in Arica, he provides vocal instruction to the Coro de Estudiantes de la Universidad de Tarapacá and the Conservatorio Alcántara. In Arica and Concepción, he has worked as a vocal instructor for important choirs in those cities.
Iván Rodriguez has been active as as a freelance lyric tenor since March 2000. As a professional singer, he spent most of his career as a soloist in Santiago, participating in the opera seasons of the Teatro Municipal de Santiago, Universidad Católica, Teatro de la Universidad de Chile and Teatro Municipal de Temuco. Among the works he has performed: W.A. Mozart's Requiem Mass, Mass in C minor, the roles of Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte, Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, and Don Curzio in Le nozze di Figaro; J.S. Bach's Magnificat in D major BWV 243, Cantatas BWV 196, BWV 131 and BWV 140, Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248 (Evangelist and arias), Oster-Oratorium BWV 249, Johannes-Passion BWV 245 (arias) and Mass in B minor BWV 232; George Frideric Handel's Oratorio Messiah; Felix Mendelssohn's Oratorio Elijah; Giuseppe Verdi's the role of Gaston in La Traviata; Donizetti's, the role of Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Don Gaspar in La Favorita; Giacomo Puccini's the role of Pong in Turandot; Joseph Haydn's oratorio The Creation; Ullmann's Der Kaiser von Atlantis; and Claudio Monteverdi's L'Orfeo.
Iván Rodriguez also performed in numerous chamber music concerts, interpreting works by Schubert, Robert Schumann, Dvořák, Jindřik, and García. |
