David Rhyne (Organ, Choral Conductor)

Born: USA

The American organist, choral conductor and music teacher, David Ernest Rhyne, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance from Lenoir-Rhyne University; his Master of Music degree from and the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati; and his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Choral Conducting from the Frost School of Music of the University of Miami (2007)..

David Rhyne has been Director of Music at Trinity Lutheran Church since August 2004. He was instrumental in bringing the South Carolina Bach Choir to Greenville in 2014 and has, since then, served as the founding Artistic Director for S.C. Bach, South Carolina’s Bach Society. Since August 2007, he works as a Director of Choral Ensembles at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities which is an Education company with an estimated 114 employees; and founded in 1980. He is also Music Instructor at Furman University (since January 2015), and Organist at St Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville (since November 2015). He is the founding director of Greenville Early Music, and has over 30 years of experience in sacred music. His research into the music of J.S. Bach has included grants to study at the Oregon Bach Festival and the Bachfest Leipzig. Choirs under his leadership have performed throughout the USA and Europe. Notable performances have included Schonbrunn Palace, Vienna; St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City; and St. Thomas Church, Leipzig. He is currently based in Greenville, South Carolina, USA.
