The German mezzo-soprano, Ruth Katharina Peeck, studied music education at the Musikhochschule Mannheim, majoring in voice, piano, and conducting, before continuing her vocal studies with Professor Claudia Eder in Mainz until she obtained her concert exam. In 2018, she won 1st Prize at the Meistersinger-Wettbewerb in Neustadt. Together with pianist Hedayet Djeddikar, she was awarded the Lied Prize of the Stiftung Husumer Volksbank and, with organist Carsten Ehret, 1st Prize at the internationalen Wettbewerb für Orgel und Gesang in Neuss. She also received 1st Prize at the Wettbewerb Konzertexamen an der Hochschule für Musik in Mainz.
In the concert field, Ruth Katharina Peeck has worked with orchestras such as the Neumeyer Consort, Klassischen Philharmonie Bonn, and Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz. As a member of the Barock Vokal group in Mainz, she has sung with Michael Hofstetter, Andreas Scholl, and Ton Koopman, and in 2017 as a scholarship holder at the Bachakademie Stuttgart with Hans-Christoph Rademann and Helmuth Rilling. She gained her first stage experience at the Musikbühne in Mannheim as Cinderella in Eberhard Streul's children's opera of the same name, based on Rossini's La Cenerentola. She made her debut in 2015 as Clori in Alessandro Scarlatti's Gli equivoci nel sembiante at the Hessischen Staatstheater Wiesbaden. During the 2015-2016 season, she was a member of the Jungen Ensemble at the Staatstheater Mainz (until 2017), appearing as Giovanna in Rigoletto, among others, and sang in Francesco Cavalli's Veremonda at the Schwetzinger Festspielen.
Starting in the 2019-2020 season, Ruth Katharina Peeck joined the ensemble of the Jungen Oper Dortmund, where she performed numerous roles in the world premieres of Kirsas Musik, Mädchen in Not and Persona. In 2020-2021, she also took over the musical direction of We DO Opera! at The Dortmunder Bürger*innenOper. For the 2023-2024 season, she moved from the Jungen Oper Dortmund ensemble to the Oper Dortmund ensemble. There, she performed Diana in Orpheus in der Unterwelt, Nell in Fin de Partie, Ikuma in the world premiere of Die Reise zu Planet 9, and Fricka in Das Rheingold. In the 2024-2025 season, she performed roles including Annina in the new production of La traviata, Aunt/Camel in the revival of Die Kinder des Sultans, and in the complete cycle of Der Ring des Nibelungen. In the 2025-2026 season, she will perform roles including Marcelina in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and the role of U-86 in the world premiere of WIR (WE). |
