María Ogueta (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: March 19, ____ - Vitoria-Gasteiz, Pais Vasco, Spain

The Spanish mezzo-soprano, María Ogueta, studied at the Conservatorio Jesús Guridi in Vitoria. She received two scholarships from the la Diputación de Vitoria and the Basel Music Academy to study at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. That same year, she debuted at the Basel Opera House, singing the title role of Margery in the Baroque opera The Dragon of Wantley.

María Ogueta is a singer of great vocal versatility. She has worked as a soloist with stage directors such as Giulio Ciabatti, Francesco Bellotto, Gustavo Tambascio, Francisco López, Alfonso Romero Mora, María Elena Mexia, Javier Hernandez, among others. With orchestra conductors such as Carlos Aragón, Oliver Díaz, Gerard Talbot, Christophe Rousset, Andrea Marcon, Carlos Domínguez Nieto, Miquel Ortega, Dian Chovanov, Cristian Sandu, Fabio Bonizzoni, Jordi Savall, Simón Marziali, and Stefano Seghedoni, among others. And with master organists and pianists such as Enrique Ayarra, Miguel Angel García, Borja Mariño, Ricardo Estrada, and Rubén Fernández Aguirre, among others.

María Ogueta has debuted in the roles of Alice Ford in Falstaff, Mimi in La Bohème, and Aída in Aída, singing at important opera houses in the Netherlands and Belgium in cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Brussels. She has debuted Tosca in Tosca, Micaela in Georges Bizet's Carmen and Abigaille in Nabucco in Opera Houses in Germany, forming part as a soloist in the Italian Opera Company Stagione d'Ópera Italiana. She debuted at the Opera House of Bogotá and Cali on a tour singing music in the Spanish Baroque with Itziar Atutxa. She has been a soloist in the Chamber Group of the Universidad de Santiago with Carlos Villanueva singing Medieval and Renaissance repertoire. She has sung as a soloist in Festivals and Auditoriums such as the Festival de Música Sacra de Cuenca (September 2004), Festival Internacional de Música de Santander (September 2020), Auditorio Manuel de Falla (September 2002), Auditorio Kursaal (September 2005) and Fundación Pedro Barrié de la Maza, among others. In November 2024, she sang W.A. Mozart's Requiem at the Iglesia del Señor San José. She currently lives in Dos Hermanas, Spain.
