The Belgian baritone, Samuel Namotte, began his musical training at age 3 playing the violin. At 17 years old, during a long employment with theater groups, he discovered his interest for vocal development. After his Master in “French/Roman Languages and Literatures” at Liège University he began in 2013 his formal education in classical singing at Maastricht Conservatory (2013-2014) and finished his master at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège.
At the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Opéra d’Avignon, Teatro Real, Opéra de Rouen Normandie, Opéra National de Lorraine, Versailles, Opéra de Marseille, Opera Zuid Nederland, at the Théâtre National de Marseille or at the Grand Théâtre du Luxembourg among others, Samuel Namotte has interpreted Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Ping in Turandot, Biju and Alcindor in Le postillon de Lonjumeau , Maximilian in Leonard Bernstein's Candide and il Marchese d’Obigny in La Traviata, Ercole in Admeto, Uno spirit in Monteverdi’s Orfeo and Marte in La Contesa de’ Numi, Ceprano in Rigoletto, Guglielmo in W.A. Mozart's Cosí fan tutte, Ben in Menotti’s Téléphone, Albert and Johann in Massenet's Werther, Morales and Dancaïre in Georges Bizet's Carmen , L´horloge comtoise in M. Ravel's L´Enfant et les sortilèges (Maastricht), Adonis in J. Blow's Venus and Adonis, Zampa in Hérold's Zampa ou la fiancée de marbre, Marco in Gianni Schicchi… He frequently enjoys portraying different baritone roles in operettas, like Danilo in The merry Widow, Falke in die Flerdmaus, le Marquis de Corneville in Les cloches de Corneville, Senator Bartolomeo Delacqua in Benjamin Britten's Eine Nacht in Venedig, Red Shadow in Romberg's The Desert Song by, Baron de Gondremarck in La vie parisienne, André de Langeac in Les Saltimbanques and Narcisse de Brissac in Les mousquetairesau couvent, to name but a few.
In the recent years Samuel Namotte has often been engaged as an oratorio soloist in Belgium, Netherlands, France and Germany in works such as J.S. Bach's Magnificat in D major BWV 243 and Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248; Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem; G. Rossini's Petite messe solennelle; George Frideric Handel's Dixit dominus, Messiah and I Will Magnify Thee; Teller's Missa pro defunctis; Felix Mendelssohn's Lauda sion; Jan Dismas Zelenka's Te Deum; W.A. Mozart's Krönungsmesse, Missa brevis; Charles Gounod's Cäcilienmesse; Dietrich Buxtehude's Membra Jesu nostri; Gabriel Fauré's Requiem; Camille Saint-Saëns's Requiem and Oratorio de Noël, among others.
Samuel Namotte has worked with stage directors like: O. Klöter, S. Poda, K. Van Hercke, F. de Carpentries, T. Strassberger, M. Fau, D. Wilkenbus, S. Oliveiro, S. Van de Werf, F. van Laecke, W. Koeken, P.-E. Fourny, S. Mazzonis di Pralafera, M. Fau, T. Strassberger etc. And with conductors such as: A. Joël, S. Rouland, P. Arrivabeni, Jean-Claude Malgoire, D. Reiland, J.-M. Aymes, G. Bisanti, Jonathan Cohen, Christoph Prégardien, L. Warynski, Reinoud Van Mechelen, Christophe Rousset, B. Botzet, Leonardo García-Alarcón, J.-C. Spinosi, Vahan Mardirossian, S. Scappucci, D. Stehen, G. P. Bisanti... He is also a member of Vlaams Radio Koor (Director: Bart Van Reyn).
Coming soon, he will sing Frank in Die Fledermaus at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie and Ford (Falstaff) at the Opéra Grand Avignon.
Samuel Namotte married Noémie Clerebaut on February 29, 2020 and currently lives in Liège, Belgium. |
