Sophie Charlotte Nachtsheim was born in 1993 in Lahnstein and began her musical career at a young age at the Landesmusikgymnasium Rheinland-Pfalz in Montabaur, where she had singing lessons with Martina Hennemann and participated in the Kammerchor Art of the Voice. She also took harp lessons with Blanche Birdsong. She gained further musical experience during this time in the Landesjugendchor Rheinland-Pfalz, as well as in singing lessons with Barbara Schlick. With the beginning of her vocal studies in 2011, she specialized mainly in the repertoire of early music and its historical performance practice. She studied singing at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Hochschule für Alte Musik in Basel in the class of Evelyn Tubb for five years. There she also started playing the Baroque harp and had several years of instruction with Heidrun Rosenzweig. As part of her studies, she has participated in such projects as J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) with the La Cetra Barockorchester Basel under the direction of Andrea Marcon and Weihnachtsoratorium by Giovanni Lorenzo Lulier under the direction of Rinaldo Alessandrini and participated in master-classes with Richard Levitt, Margreet Honig, Peter Kooy, Andreas Scholl and Emma Kirkby. In the summer of 2016 she finished her Performance Master and continues her studies with the Advanced Vocal Ensemble Studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Anthony Rooley and Evelyn Tubb.
In addition to her interest in the vocal music of the Renaissance and Baroque, Charlotte Nachtsheim also devotes herself to the early Romantic repertoire and focuses in particular on the self-accompanied singing with the Baroque harp. In recent years she has performed in various smaller ensembles such as the Ensemble de Morales, Orchester ad fontes, Cembaless and Schola Cantorum Nürnberg, as well as with larger choirs such as the Zürcher Sing-Akademie. |
