The Spanish baritone flautist and music teacher, Vicente Montañana, began his musical studies in Valencia. He holds a Higher Diploma in Transverse Flute and Singing, as well as the respective honorary awards. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, specializing in Engraving and Design, from the Flacultad de Bellas Artes Santa Isabel de Hungría de Sevilla. He has studied singing with Enriqueta Tarrés, Alan Branch, Pedro Lavirgen, Elena Obraztsova, Alfredo Kraus, Kurt Widmer, and others. He studied flute with Jesús Campos and Raimond Guiot, professors at the Conservatories of Valencia and Paris.
In opera, Vicente Montañana has played the roles of Germond in Verdi's La Traviata, Germán in Turina's Margot, Don Quixote in M. Falla's El Retablo de Maese Pedro, Enrico in Donizetti's Lucía di Lammermoor, Figaro in G. Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, Colás in W.A. Mozart's Bastián and Bastiana, Gasparo in Donizetti's Rita, Polifemo in George Frideric Handel's Acis and Galatea, Ricardo in Bellini's I Puritani, etc. In zarzuela, he has performed the roles of Vidal in Moreno Torroba's Luisa Fernanda, Lorenzo in Vives' Doña Francisquita, Juan in Guerrero's Los Gavilanes, Miguel in Alonso's La Parranda, Santi in Guridi's El Caserío, Germán in Soutullo & Vert's La del Soto del Parral, Felipe in Chapi's La Revoltosa, Joaquín in Sorozábal's La del Manojo de Rosas, Leonello in Serrano's La Canción del Olvido, among others. In oratorio, he has sung the roles in: G.F. Handel's Messiah; J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion BWV 244; J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248; W.A. Mozart's Requiem; Verdi's Requiem; Johannes Brahms' Requiem; Gabriel Fauré's Requiem; Rossini's Stabat Mater; J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 147, among others.
Vicente Montañana participated in the world premiere of Margot at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid, as a baritone, and, as a flautist, in the world premiere in Seville of the flute and band version of Rodrigo's Fantasia para un gentilhombre, with the approval of Cecilia Rodrigo. He has studied and given concerts in Vörgel (Austria), under the artistic direction of Francisco Araiza. Recently he has performed in concert versions the roles of Raphael in M. Torroba's Maravilla, Figaro in G. Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, Escamillo
in Georges Bizet's Carmen, J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245, Haydn's Stabat Mater, G.F. Handel's Solomon, Haydn's Creation, among others.
Vicente Montañana is currently an active member of the Compañía Lírica “María Malibrán” in Seville, having performed in every province of the Andalusian Community.
Vicente Montañana is a professor of the Banda Municipal de Sevilla by competitive examination. He has taught Transverse Flute at the Conservatorio Superior de Sevilla, and advanced flute and singing in Spain (Diputación de Huelva) and Morocco (Fundación Tres Culturas de Meditarráneo). |
