The Canadian baritone and librarian, Brian McMillan, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree with Honours and his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from McGill University, as well his Master of Information Studies from the University of Toronto.
Brian McMillan is a Toronto-based baritone singer and the Director of the Music Library at Western University in Canada. He has an extensive performance and recording career across North America. He has performed with Tafelmusik Chamber Choir (Director: Jeanne Lamon), Les Violons du Roy (Director: Bernard Labadie), Aradia Ensemble (Director: Kevin Mallon), Le Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montréal, La Chapelle de Québec, the professional choir of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal and the Canadian Opera Company Chorus. He regularly performs with the London, Ontario-based choir, Chor Amica. He is featured on Naxos recordings, including Rameau's Castor et Pollux.
Brian McMillan is the director of Western's Music Library. In this role, he acts as a liaison between Western Libraries and the Don Wright Faculty of Music, advocating for services, collections, and facilities that support the diverse needs of musicians at Western and, more broadly, in the London community. Previously, he worked as a librarian at McGill University's Marvin Duchow Music Library (since July 2004), focusing on music information literacy. He is an active member of the Canadian Association of Music Libraries and the Music Library Association (US). He regularly performs and lectures on music-related topics. He has presented and published articles and book chapters in the area of music information literacy. More broadly, he is interested in the information behaviours of musicians. An active singer and opera lover, He regularly delivers pre-concert lectures for the Canadian Opera Company. He currently lives in London, Ontario. |
