Pascal Mayer (Tenor, Choral Conductor)

Born: 1958 - Switzerland

The Swiss tenor and choral conductor, Pascal Mayer, was trained as a choral conductor and music teacher in at the Freiburger Konservatorium and Konservatorium Zürich (1978-1986). During his studies in singing and choral conducting, he was in the years 1978-1990 a member of the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne (under Michel Corboz), Choeur de la Radio Suisse Romande (Director: André Charlet) and Kammerchor Stuttgart (Director: Frieder Bernius).

Pascal Mayer was commissioned by Paul Sacher to direct the Basler Kammerchor (1982-1987). For ten years he conducted the Chor Da Camera in Neuenburg. On the side of André Charlet, he was co-director of the Choeur de Chambre Romand from 1987 to 1997.

In addition to the Chor der Universität and the Jeunesses Musicales von Freiburg, which he directed until 2000, Pascal Mayer also called in 1987 to give life to the Kammerchor der Universität Freiburg. In 1995, together with the Valais conductor Hansruedi Kämpfen, he founded the Schweizer Jugendchor as part of the association Europa Cantat. Since 1997 he has been conducting the Maîtrise de Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens in Bulle. In Lausanne he directs the Choeur Faller and, since 1999, the Chor Pro Arte. Since 1997, he has been preparing the Chor der Oper von Avenches for its performances.

Pascal Mayer also teaches music at the Gymnasium Sainte-Croix in Freiburg, where he also directs the choir. On invitation he has also conducted professional radio choirs in Munich and Leipzig.

Pascal Mayer is an enthusiast of communication. His lively musical sensibility is the first to stand out. He is always on the lookout, both in the music of the last centuries and in new ways, combining formal precision and technical precision with lyrical quality and expressiveness with the school of Romantic composers.
