Matteo Magistrali (Tenor, Choral Conductor)

Born: 1980 - Varese, Italy

The Italian tenor and choral conductor and composer, Matteo Magistrali, has studied piano, choral conducting, graduating with with honors in July 2014, obtained the first level Academic Diploma in Composition at the "G. Verdi" Conservatorio "G.Verdi" in Como, under the guidance of Vittorio Zago. He has participated in numerous master-classes in singing and conducting, including those taught by Innominato, Acciai, Frieder Bernius, Gary Graden, Kaljuste, Sarah Connolly - to mention the main ones - and, in March 2016, a seminar on the direction of vocal and instrumental ensembles held by the Capuano, Mellace, Collarile and Comerci. He graduated with honors in 2010 with a thesis on music informatics and attended the two-year academic composition course at the Conservatorio "G.Verdi" in Milan under the guidance of Gabriele Manca.

Matteo Magistrali is Artistic Director of the Coro della Basilica di Gallarate (VA), collaborating with Giancarlo Parodi at the organ - of the Coro Dalakopen di Legnano (MI) and of the Coro Pieve del Seprio di Castronno (VA), with which he received significant awards in choral competitions. He collaborates, both as a chorister and as a soloist with various ensembles, under the direction of the Diego Fasolis, Monego, Roberto Balconi, Pavese, Innominato and others. He sang permanently in the Coro da Camera di Varese - with whom he earned notable placements in in Concorsi Corali Nazionali di Chiara Fama - in the vocal quartet Sesquialtera and in the vocal-instrumental sextet Six and the City.

Among the most significant artistic experiences should be mentioned the collaboration with Lorenzo Ghielmi, the participations at the Verbier Festival (under the direction of Zubin Mehta), at the Festival San Fedele Musica and the broadcast "Piazza Verdi" of RADIO 3.

Matteo Magistrali has many compositions to his credit (pieces for different instrumental and vocal compositions, motets and elaborations) and noteworthy results, as well as some reports to national and international composition competitions, these awards: the winning of the III° Concorso Internazionale di Composizione Corale-Strumentale di Cles (November 2015), the 2nd prize at the ICCC Japan International Composition Competition (August 2015), the 3rd prize in the choral composition competition "It's time to play" (May 2015), the winning of the Premio Internazionale di Composizione "Luigi Nono" (October 2014), 2nd prize (1st prize not assigned for the category) at the International Composition Competition "David Maria Turoldo" - edition 2013-2014, the first absolute prizes at V edition (2016), III edition (2014) and II edition (2013) of the "Concorso di Composizione Serenate di Calendimaggio" and the "1° concorso di composizione Franchino Gaffurio 2012" (section V - sacred), the 2nd prize at the "Concorso di Composizione Assisi Suono Sacro" (3rd edition - June) 2013). He was also a finalist at the "Trofeo di Composizione Seghizzi 2013" and was selected to contribute to the European inter-conservative composition project "ECO 2013" among the students of the "Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Como. He is currently a finalist in the "Trofeo di Composizione Seghizzi 2016".

Matteo Magistrali has contributed musical publications for the editions Pizzicato, Panamusica and Feniarco and was involved in the production of a special of RAI 5 in which it was transmitted, in autumn 2013, one of his composition. He currently lives in Castronno, Italy.
