Lyatoshynsky Ensemble (Chamber Choir & Orchestra)

Founded: 1992 - Kyiv, Ukraine

History of the Boris Lyatoshynsky Ensemble of Classical Music [Russian: Київський камерний хор ім. Б. Лятошинського] dates back to the time when in 1964 Victor Ikonnik (Віктором Іконником) created an amateur choir at the Music Choir Society. The choir began its activities by performing masterpieces of world musical heritage. The highest creative achievement of the group was the performance of J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) and J. Haydn's oratorio The Seasons.

In 1973, the amateur choir officially received the status of a professional group and then the "Kyiv Chamber Choir" (Київський камерний хор) was born. Already at that time the ensemble enjoyed the well-deserved recognition of musicians and numerous fans of choral singing.

In May 1992, an event took place in the artistic life of Kyiv: the Kyiv Chamber Choir, which has already left behind a good record of concerts, stock records from the treasuries of national and world choral heritage (24 records with music by K. Stetsenko, B. Lyatoshynsky, M. Diletsky, D. Bortnyansky, M. Berezovsky, A. Wedel) joined the newly formed chamber orchestra, and together they gave life to the Classical Music Ensemble. B. Lyatoshynsky (Ансамблю класичної музики ім. Б. Лятошинського). The countdown of the creative biography of a qualitatively new artistic center, a team that is an inseparable, permanent unity, and it is due to the achievement of a highly artistic level of performance.

And now 40 singers and 40 players under the direction of artistic director, People's Artist of Ukraine, Knight of the Order of Princess Olga Valentina Ikonnyk-Zakharchenko and conductor, Honored Artist of Ukraine Igor Andrievsky allow people to enjoy the multifaceted beauty of world music. The ensemble's repertoire is constantly replenished with new masterpieces of world classics: Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) and Oster-Oratorium (BWV 249) by J.S. Bach, Missa solemnis by L.v. Beethoven; Israel in Egypt by George Frideric Handel; Stabat Mater by J. Rossini and A. Dvorak; Paulus by Felix Mendelssohn; Requiem by L. Cherubini and J. Verdi; Mass by F. Schubert and A. Bruckner; Ein deutsches Requiem and Schicksalslied by Johannes Brahms; Carmina Burana by C. Orff; John of Damascus and At the Reading of a Psalm by S. Taneyev and others.

The high professional level of the orchestra makes it possible to perform top works of the symphonic repertoire (symphonies by J. Haydn, W.A. Mozart, L.v. Beethoven, J. Brahms, S. Prokofiev, Dmitri Shostakovich). Every year the Ensemble fruitfully co-operates within the framework of the International Festival of Conductors with young and talented conductors of Switzerland, the USA, France, Germany. In 2006, the ensemble was invited to Italy with the world premiere of a specially written work by Italian composer and conductor Enrico Blatti to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Francis Xavier. In 2010, the Ensemble performed successfully during a tour of the cities of the Netherlands, where they performed at the most prestigious concert hall Amsterdam Concertgebouw. The ensemble conducts active concert activities in Kyiv and Ukraine, constantly participates in the International Festivals "Kyiv Music Fest", "Premieres of the Season", promoting the works of contemporary Ukrainian composers.
