Miriam Kutrowatz (Soprano)

Born: 1997 - Vienna, Austria

The Austrian soprano, Miriam Kutrowatz, studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Winner of both the Audience and Most Promising Young Singer prizes at the 2019 Cesti Competition for Baroque Opera, Kleine Zeitung writes that one, "does not need to be a prophet to predict a beautiful career for the 23-year-old Viennese soprano." The Semifinalist at the 2020 Glyndebourne Opera Cup, she completed her Bachelor's studies with Edith Lienbacher at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She is currently studying for her Master's degree there with Florian Boesch. She attended master-classes with Marijana Mijanovic and Malcolm Martineau, among others, and trained in contemporary dance with the Austrian choreographer Doris Uhlich, through whom she was part of the dance piece Unkraut at the ImPulsTanz Festival Vienna.

Miriam Kutrowatz is a member of the Young Ensemble of the Theater an der Wien, where she made her highly successful debut at the Wiener Kammeroper as Idaspe in Antonio Vivaldi's Il Bajazet. In the current season she can be seen there as L'Amour in Gluck's Orphée and Zerlina in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni as well as Marie in Lortzing's Der Waffenschmied and Niece 1 in Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes at the Theater an der Wien. At the 2021 Salzburg Festival she made her debut in the children's opera Vom Stern der nicht leuchten konnte (E. Naske, E. Baumann) where she impersonated the title role of the star. Past roles on the opera stage have also included Alinda in Cavalli's Il Giasone, Gretel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel at Schlosstheater Schönbrunn (December 2019) and Morgana in George Frideric Handel's Alcina at the "JOpera" Summer Festival (2019).

Miriam Kutrowatz' concert highlights include appearances at the Wiener Konzerthaus in various programmes under Phillipe Jordan, Andres Orozco-Estrada, Erwin Ortner and Heinz Ferlesch; and at the 2020 Benefit Gala with Piotr Beczała. She made her debut in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein Vienna in November 2021 under Martin Haselböck with W.A. Mozart's Requiem. She interpreted works such as the cantata Mirjams Siegesgesang and Der Hochzeitsbraten by F. Schubert, W.A. Mozart's Great Mass in C minor and Requiem, the part of Filia in G. Carissimi's Jephte, as well as L.v. Beethoven's Choral Symphony Op. 80 at the Philharmonie de Paris.

In July 2020 Miriam Kutrowatz made her Styriarte debut as Zerlina in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni in Nöten under Michael Hofstetter. The freshness and expressiveness of her singing, combined with exceptional acting skills, predestine her for opera. Her stunning Zerlina was a highlight this semi-concert. In December 2020, she sang G.F. Handel's Messiah at the Helmut Liszt Hall in Graz. In 2021 she returned for a performance at the Pfarrkirche Stainz, singing G.F. Handel's Dixit Dominus and A. Vivaldi's Magnificat under Jordi Savall's baton. In July 2022, she returmed to the same venue for M.A. Charpentier Te Deum in D major and J.S. Bach's Magnificat in D major BWV 243, also under Jordi Savall. The “bewitching” (Der Standard) soprano is earning major acclaim for her “crystal-clear soprano” (Falter) and “beguiling” stage presence (Wiener Zeitung).
