The Kyrgyz-born pianist and music teacher, Kairy Koshoeva, earned her Bachelor of Music and her Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance, Accompaniment, Pedagogy, Chamber Music from the Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow (1992-2000); and her Artist Diploma certificate in Piano Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio (2000-2002). She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Missouri, Kansas City (UMKC) (2002-2007). She has studied with great musicians including Bella M. Zubok, Faina Kharmatz, Michael Burshtin (Kyrgyzstan/Israel), Vera Nosina (Moscow), Monique Duphil (Oberlin), and Robert Weirich (UMKC); and had the privilege of being coached by renowned pianist Lazar Berman in Weimar Master Classes. She has garnered awards from around the globe, including 2nd Prize at the International Piano Competition in Vicenza, Italy (1998); 2nd Prize at the N. Rubinstein Competition in Paris (1998); 3rd Prize at D'Angelo Young Artist International Piano Competition, Erie, PA (2001); 1st Prize at the Chautauqua Music Festival Concerto Competition in New York (2001); Gold Medal at the Rachmaninoff Awards in Moscow (2004); Winner of Concerto/Aria competition at UMKC - Conservatory of Music (2004), Winner of Jefferson City Symphony Concerto Competition (2005). In 2003, her home country awarded her the prestigious title of Honored Artist of Kyrgyzstan.
Kairy Koshoeva has performed in Israel, France, Germany, Russia, Turkey, Switzerland and the USA. In 2013, she received the Marian Bowker Davidson Collaborative Pianist Award for her Kansas City performance of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) with the Owen/Cox Dance Group. She also won the 2015 Berta Eisberg Award for collaboration with Owen/Cox in a performance of Hindemith’s Ludus Tonalis. Dr. Koshoeva enjoys a varied career as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher.
In addition to her own performances, she adjudicates in different piano competitions nationally and internationally. While living in Kansas City, she taught music at many institutions of higher learning, including: the Avila University (September 2008-January 2009), University of Central Missouri (August 2010-May 2011), Kansas City Community College (August 2008-May 2012), University of Missouri at Kansas City (August 2010-May 2011), Park University (since August 2011), UMKC Conservatory of Music (August-December 2014), University of Kansas (August-December 2014), Rockhurst University (January 2012-June 2015). In 2015 she joined the faculty of Kingston’s New School for Music Study and teaches privately in the Princeton area. Many of her students have won prestigious piano competitions, some leading to performances in Carnegie Hall. |
