The Austrian soprano, Julia Koci, born as daughter of a famous Austrian/Check artists-couple in Vienna, new up in New York City, where she studied at the Mannes College of Music Manhattan. She completed her musical eduction with master-classes with Renata Scotto, Elly Ameling, Danielle Ferro and Christa Ludwig.
First engaments led the young soprano to the Mannes Opera, Dicapo Opera, Amato Opera and the Liederkranz New York City, where she, among others, sang Oscar, Nanetta, Marzelline, Lauretta and Zerlina With Adele in J. Strauß The Bat at the Festival dell’Opera Roma, Julia Koci returned to Europe, and guested as Gloria in Krenek's Vertrauenssache at the Theater Rostock, as Franzi Cagliari at the Internationale Opera Producties Nederland; with Belgium Mozart-specialist Dirk Vermeulen, she performed Susanna in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerpen; as Fiordiligi in W.A. Mozart's "Cosi fan tutte" at the Opera Kraków, and as Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Opera Nowa Bydgoszcz and on a tour through the Netherlands and Beligum. Shortly after, she performed Pamina also at the Opernfestspiele im Steinbruch in St. Margarethen, and at the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam.
Julia Koci, acclaimed by the press and loved by the public, coasts easily through the genres. With her excellent vocal technique, her fine musical sense for the different styles, as well as her solid training in drama and dance, she manages perfectly the balance between opera, operetta and classical musical, and to present all genres on the same high level.
A resident member of the ensemble of Volksoper Wien since the 2011-2012 season, Julia Koci embodied the roles of Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Susanna and Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Najade in R. Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos, Valensienne in Lehàr's Die Lustige Witwe, performing this part also at the Opera Festival Savonlinna; Musetta in Puccini's La Bohème, Miss Sarah Brown in Frank Loesser's Guys & Dolls, Melody Moneymaker in Friedrich Cerha's Austrian Premiere Onkel Präsident, Luigia in Viva La Mamma in stage direction of Rolando Villazón, Smitty in Loesser's Wie man Karriere macht ohne sich anzustrengen, Gloria Mills in Benatzky's Axel an der Himmelstür and created the part pf Toni Paolina Giró in Christian Kolonovit's musical-world-premiere Vivaldi - die fünfte Jahreszeit.
In the 2018-2019 season, Julia Koci overtook the female main-part of Annina Girò in Kolonovits' numerous awarded musical, sang again Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Carlotta in Gasparone and Gloria Mills in Axel an der Himmelstür, as well as X-Mas-Concerts; and gave her debuts as Serena in Gershwin's Porgy & Bess, as Henriette in Benatzky's Meine Schwester & ich, and as Eurydike in Offenbach's Orphee aux Enfers; A role, she will also perform in 2019-2020 season, as well as Henriette in Meine Schwester & ich, Valensienne in Die Lustige Witwe and Annina Girò in Vivaldi - die fünfte Jahreszeit . In addition, she will give her debuts as Kunigunde in Offenbach's König Karotte and as Micaëla in Georges Bizet's Carmen.
Guest-engagements of the recent past brought Julia Koci as Kati in the World-Premiere of Bruno Strobel's Church-opera Hemma to the Carinthischer Sommer, where she also was a celebrated Lazarus in Gottfried von Einem's opera Jesu Hochzeit; furthermore, she gave her debut at the Seefestspiele Mörbisch in the title-role of Kálmán's Gräfin Mariza, which also led her to the Operettensommer Kufstein. Further guest-engagements included Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera at Opera Tampa Florida; Gilda in Rigoletto and Violetta in La Traviata at the Kyoto Opera and the Kawasaki Hall Tokyo; and another Traviata-production to Opera Arizona, Comtesse Stasi in Csárdásfürstin to the Murten Classics Festival, and Lucietta in H. Reiter’s World-Premiere Il Campiello to the Neue Oper Wien; and in the acting role of Katarina Cavalieri in Shaffer's Amadeus in stage direction of Janusz Kica, Julia Koci was seen at the Theater an der Josefstadt and the famous Burgtheater Wien.
Since her debut at the Bühne Baden as Emilie in Josef Strauß’ Frühlingsluft, Julia Koci can be called a "regular guest" at this theater, rich in tradition, wehre she appeared as Annina in J. Strauß’ Eine Nacht in Venedig, in the title-role of Millöcker's Die Dubarry, as Hortense in Heuberger’s Opernball and as Aschenputtel, a part, composed for Julia Koci by musical-composer Pavel Singer.
Julia Koci is not only a sought after artist for the stage, but also for concerts, and sings regularly oratorio-works by J.S. Bach, Monteverdi, W.A. Mozart, Haydn, Schubert and Gustav Mahler among others in the Stephansdom Wien, the Franziskanerkirche, the Schubertkirche and the MuTh, the New Concert-Hall of the Wiener Sängerknaben. She often collaborates with the Concerto Barocco, as well as with the Barockensemble der Wiener Symphoniker under the baton of Christian Birnbaum, with whom she not only sings concerts in Austria, Germany and Japan, but also reordered 2 CD's. Concerts with a W.A. Mozart-and Johann-Strauß-program with the Orchestra Alt-Wien led her to the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Konzerte Schloß Schönbrunn and the Wiener Operetten Sommer; and with the Junge Philharmonie Wien, she regularly sings in Austria and aboard, for example at the Budapest Concert-Hall or the Malmö Concert Hall or the Concert-Hall Stockholm.

Her discography includes the Baroque-CDs "Ars et aqua" and "Inflammata" with the Barockensemble der Wiener Symphoniker; the CDs "Auf ewig dein Mozart“ with the Junge Philharmonie Wien, "Lachen, Kosen, Tanzen“ with the Ziehrer Orchester and the "Zauberflöte für Kinder" of the Opernfestspiele im Steinbruch St. Margarethen, which was the best-selling Kids-Opern-DVD in Austria of all times. |
