The American soprano, Rachel Kobernick, obtained her Bachelor of Mausic degree in Vocal Performancee, Arts Leadership Certificate, Italian Minor from Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester (2016-spring 2020), where she studied with Robert Swensen; and her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music (July 2020-spring 2022), where she studied with Gwen Coleman, and will receive Artist Diploma in Opera Performance in 2024. Her Awards include: Three Arts Award Scholarship Recipient from Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (2021); Encouragement Award at Kentucky District Metropolitan Opera Competition (2021); National Opera Association Finalist at Carolyn Bailey/Argento Competition (2023); Encouragement Award at Indiana District Metropolitan Opera Competition (2023); Finalist Grand at Grand Junction Competition of Junction Symphony Orchestra (2023).
Rachel Kobernick enjoys performing works from all areas of the operatic repertoire. In particular, she loves early music and frequently performs baroque repertoire, both solo and with chamber ensembles. She is also passionate about opera outreach and education, and had a blast bringing Pamina and Queen of the Night in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte to life for younger audiences this past fall with Opera on the James (2022). Additionally, she has experience in the world of straight plays, performing Lindsay Partain’s one woman play The Way You Made Me in September 2022.
Rachel Kobernick's recent role engagements include the role of Nella in Opera on the James’ production of Gianni Schicchi (2023), as well as Nerone in George Frideric Handel's Agrippina with CCM Opera (2023). She joined Opera on the James in the fall of 2022 as a young artist, performing Pamina and the Shepherd in Tosca (2022). In summer 2022, she joined Cincinnati Opera as a chorus member in Aida and La Boheme and joined Queen City Opera in their production of L.v. Beethoven's Fidelio. In spring 2023, she will premiere the role of Radcliffe in Nathan Felix’s Immersive Opera The Great Flood, as well as sing the soprano solo in Joseph Shwantner’s orchestral work, Sparrows, with Musica Nova at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music (2023). In summer 2023, she will return to Cincinnati Opera in the choruses of Lucia di Lammermoor and Madame Butterfly.
Aside from performing, Rachel Kobernick has gained experience in stage management and opera direction, working professionally with the Ohio Light Opera Company during the summer of 2018 and with the Eastman Opera Theatre for over six productions. She is currently a cantorial soloist at Isaac. M Wise Temple in Cincinnati, as well as a cantor for Etz Chaim Congregation in Fairport, New York, (virtually, thanks Covid!) where she also teaches elementary music to religious school students. Additionally, she works as the Music Director and Vocalist for the praise band at Crescent Springs Presbyterian Church.
Rachel Kobernick currently has a private studio where she teaches voice, piano, and music theory to students of all ages, and is always welcoming new students! In addition to her focus on opera, production, and outreach, She has a love for languages and graduated with an Italian minor as well as a certificate in art’s leadership. She is currently based in Cincinnati, Ohio. |
