Sara Klein Horsman (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: The Netherlands

The Dutch mezzo-soprano and voice teacher, Sara Klein Horsman, obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Classical Singing at the ArtEZ Conservatorium in Zwolle. She studied with Riekje Bakker and Harry van Berne. She continued her training at Jard van Nes and took part in master-classes with, among others, Margreet Honig, Rudolf Jansen and Barbara Hannigan. She is coached by Hanneke de Wit. Because she wanted to know even more about the voice, she also studied Speech Therapy at Hogeschool Windesheim (Windesheim University of Applied Sciences) in Zwolle.

Sara Klein Horsman is a much sought-after soloist and has worked with leading orchestras such as Holland Baroque, Het Orkest van het Oosten and Concerto d'Amsterdam. She could be heard in the passions and cantatas of J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Felix Mendelssohn's Elias, Maurice Duruflé's Requiem, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater and Rossini's Messe Solennelle.

Sara Klein Horsman regularly gives song recitals with pianist Vesna Dimcevska. Since November 2015 they have been on the list of soloists of the Vrienden van het Lied. Their repertoire includes works such as Les nuits d'été by Berlioz and songs by Schubert, Alban Berg and Bosmans, among others. With the ensemble La Sfera Armoniosa of lutenist Mike Fentross she performed music by Purcell, Lambert, Monteverdi and Huygens.

The chamber opera Ophelia was composed especially for Sara Klein Horsman by the contemporary composer Gustavo Trujillo. She was also one of the founders of Vliegwiel, a collective of young musicians. They successfully realized two innovative opera productions and toured Dutch theaters. She has sung 3 times in the Cantatevespers in Hilversum.

After her studies, Sara Klein Horsman started her own teaching practice, but she mainly spent a lot of time on stage. she sang throughout the Netherlands: from large concert halls to tiny theaters, from beautiful churches to sunny festivals. Although she enjoyed life as a singer, it became clear to her that she has something else to do: help others find their voice! She recently decided to stop giving concerts to focus full-time on her teaching practice.
