Andrew King (Tenor)

Born: England

The English tenor, Andrew King, is acknowledged as a leading interpreter of Renaissance and Baroque music and is much in demand as an Oratorio Singer, particularly as Evangelist in the J.S. Bach Passions. His love of chamber music is exemplified by his work with The Tallis Scholars (Director: Peter Phillips), Consort of Musicke, New London Consort, Musicians of the Globe, Pro Cantione Antiqua, and The Renaissance Ensemble (which he also directs).

On the operatic stage, Andrew King has performed in many masques and semi-operas as well as performances of early operas by Caccini, Monteverdi and Peri in Austria, Belgium, England, Germany, Holland, Italy and Sweden. He travels extensively around the world. In June 2005 he sang the role of the Evangelist in performances of J.S. Bach’s Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) with the New London Consort conducted by Philip Pickett at the Israel Festival Jerusalem.

Andrew King has made numerous recordings for ASV, Decca, EMI, Etcetera, Hyperion, Musica Oscura, Philips and Virgin Classics.

Andrew King has been invited to teach in Israel, Italy, Poland and Sweden, and in England leads the Historical Vocal Programme at Birmingham Conservatoire.
