Jihye Kim (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: January 22, 1991 - Seoul, South Korea

The Korean mezzo-soprano, Jihye Kim, discovered her love for music at an early age. Although her initial path led her to earn a degree in Business Administration from Hongik University, followed by a successful career at Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Dell Computer, her enduring passion for singing eventually guided her toward a life in music. In 2009, she graduated in Opera Singing from Deokwon Arts High School in Seoul. In 2014, she earned her degree in Opera Singing from Seokyeong University in Seoul. In 2017, she moved to Piacenza, Italy to further her studies in Opera Singing. In 2022, she graduated from the Second level (corso biennio) in Opera Singing at the Conservatorio "G. Nicolini" under the guidance of Maestra A. Tabiadon.

In 2024, Jihye Kim won the Special Prize for 'Migliore interpretazione aria d’opera' at the 7° International Singing Competition “F.P. Tosti”. Other accomplishments include being a finalist in various acclaimed competitions: In 2018, the 2° International Lyric Competition “Adriana Maliponte”; In 2020, the 3° International Competition “San Colombano” in the Sacred Music section; In 2023, the International Lyric Singing Competition “Tommasso Traetta” 9° Edition; In 2024, the International Lyric Singing Prize “Umberto Borsò” 1° Edition, the 7° International Competition “San Colombano” in the Lyric Singing section and the 14° edition of the Lyric Competition “Salvatore Licitra”. In 2022, she participated in a Master-class in Opera Singing led by M° Leo Nucci. And in 2024, she attended the Corso di Alta formazione Modena Belcanto Masterclass at the Teatro Comunale di Modena Pavarotti-Freni.

In 2024, Jihye Kim made her debut as Miss Baggott in Benjamin Britten's The Little Sweep at the Teatro Comunale di Modena Pavarotti-Freni. She also performed as Tersicone and Nikona in Joe Schittino's L'Opera Minima at the Teatro Municipale di Piacenza and as La Suora Zelatrice in Giacomo Puccini's Suor Angelica at the Basilica of Sant'Antonino (organized by the Amici della Lirica in Piacenza).

Jihye Kim has been a alto soloist in the by M.A. Charpentier's Te Deum H146, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, W.A. Mozart's Coronation Mass in C major, Johann Kuhnau's Magnificat, J. Kuhnau's Cantata Wenn ihr fröhlich seid an euren Festen, etc. and has sung many lyric concerts as a soloist. She is a member of the vocal ensemble Edvard Grieg Kor from Bergen, Norway. In March 2026, she sang French romantic music with Gabriel Fauré's Requiem as the focal point at Nærum Kirke with Koncertforeningenskor conducted by Leon Reimer.
