Stefan Kennedy (Tenor)

Born: April 4, 1989 - Liverpool, England

The English tenor, Stefan Kennedy, graduated with a 2:I from Clare College, Cambridge where he read Music with a choral scholarship (2008-2011). He completed his Masters studies at the Royal Academy of Music London with Neil Mackie and Iain Ledingham (2015-2017). During his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, he was a soloist for the RAM/Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series (Royal Academy of Music - J.S. Bach: The Cantatas) and the recipient of the 2017 Grabowsky Connell Prize and the 2016 Sir Thomas Armstrong Prize. recently studied at the Dutch National Opera Academy. He continued his studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the Netherlands (2017-2018). He is a keen recitalist and has been selected for the Grote Zangers Ed. Programme in Amsterdam for the 2018-2019 season.

For the Royal Academy of Music opera scenes, Stefan Kennedy performed Male Chorus in Benjamin Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Gobin in Puccini's La Rondine. Previously, he performed the role of Satyavan in Gustav Holst’s Savitri and in 2012 he performed the role of Aeneas in the premiere of Paul Carroll’s The Fall of Troy. Other operatic roles to date include Ferrando in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, and El Remandado in Georges Bizet's Carmen for the Dutch National Opera Academy. In 2018, he made his Dutch National Opera debut with the Opera Forward Festival in the role of Triplet in Clemency and his Opera Zuid debut as Analyst in A Quiet Place. In 2017, he performed the role of Acis in Acis & Galatae under the direction of Michael Chance. He has also appeared in productions at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and Opera Holland Park.

Stefan Kennedy's oratorio performances include Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 (Ely Cathedral); J.S. Bach’s St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) (Cambridge and Southwark Cathedral), St John Passion (BWV 245) (New College, Oxford), Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), Magnificat (BWV 243) and B Minor Mass (BWV 232); George Frideric Handel’s Messiah (St Martin-in-the-Fields, Chester Cathedral and Chichester Cathedral); Haydn’s The Creation (Rouen Cathedral, France) and Nelson Mass; W.A. Mozart's Requiem (St Martin-in-the-Fields); and L.v. Beethoven's Mass in C. He has appeared as soloist at venues including Ely, Chichester and Rouen Cathedrals, St John’s Smith Square and St Martin-in-the-Fields. He is a member of the vocal & instrumental ensemble Amici Voices in England and Cappella Amsterdam (Director: Daniel Reuss) in the Netherlands.

Stefan Kennedy recently performed Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin with Timothy Ravalde in Chichester and Winchester cathedrals. He will perform this cycle again in Cambridge and London with Keval Shah. He has performed recitals across Cambridge in the West Road Concert Hall, the Fitzwilliam Museum and Kettle’s Yard and several college chapels.

Future solo appearances include performances of G.F. Handel’s Messiah, J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), W.A. Mozart's Mass in C and Requiem, Robert Schumann's Dichterliebe, Schubert’s Winterreise and Robin Holloway’s The Noon’s Repose.
