The German violinist, conductor and music pedagogue, Günter [Günther] Kehr, studied violin and musicology in Berlin and Cologne with Alma Moodie and Hermann Zitzmann. He received his doctorate in 1941 with the dissertation to Dr. med. phil: Untersuchungen zur Violintechnik um die Wende des 18. Jahrhunderts (Studies on violin technique at the turn of the 18th century).
Günter Kehr founded the Kehr Trio in 1948 and the Mainzer Kammerorchester in the winter of 1955/1956, which he directed until his death. As a soloist, conductor and chamber musician, he gave concerts on numerous tours in Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia. Especially for the SWR, but also for the WDR, NDR, HR and other radio stations he played mostly chamber music from the early Baroque to the modern age. Particularly fruitful was his collaboration with the French pianist Jacqueline Eymar.
Günter Kehr directed the Peter-Cornelius-Konservatorium in Mainz from 1953 and taught until 1985 as Professor of Chamber Music at the Hochschule für Musik Köln. Among his pupils: Christiane Hutcap, Volker David Kirchner, Helfried Fister, Armin Klaes. |
