Christina Kay (Soprano)

Born: August 1989 - USA

The American soprano, Christina Margaret Kay, obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the Gettysburg College (2008-2012); and her degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2012-2014).

New York-based soprano Christina Kay is a versatile singer whose sharp ear and intimate approach allow her to thrive in both solo and ensemble settings, from opera and art song, to early, contemporary, and folk music. In April 2018, she debuted with S.E.M. Ensemble singing the leading role in Petr Kotik’s chamber opera, Master-Pieces, for which she was praised as portraying a “vital, intelligent, generous and deeply rewarding” Gertrude Stein (Theater Scene). The show’s success led to a subsequent performance at the Ostrava in Prague Festival in November 2018. In 2019, she appeared as Morman actress-turned-porn-star Daphne Blueberry in the premiere performance of David Chesky’s satirical opera, La Farranucci. Also in 2019, she premiered the role of Turn in Cakewood Creative Arts’ folk musical Times: A Mythic Opera, and made her European debut performing John Cage’s Song Books and Julius Eastman’s Macle at New Opera Days Ostrava. Her skill with Baroque-era repertoire has led her to notable summer festivals, including the Carmel Bach Festival's Virginia Best Adams Masterclass, the American Bach Soloists Academy, and the Baroque Opera Workshop at Queens College. In New York City, she performs with period ensembles ARTEK (Director: Gwendolyn Toth) and American Classical Orchestra, and has also appeared with Brooklyn Baroque, Ensemble Leonarda, and Gotham Early Music. She is Co-Founder and Soprano at Filigree Ensemble (since September 2022).

Christina Kay has been Music Director at West Koshkonong Lutheran Church in Stoughton, Wisconsin (August 2012-May 2013); Adjunct Professor of Voice at Beloit College, Wisconsin (January 2015-May 2016); Development Assistant at Kaufman Music Center in New York City (April 2019-August 2019); Music Administrator at Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City (September 2019-November 2022); Music Associate for Advancement at Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, in New York City (since November 2022); Program Administrator (May 2017-June 2023) and Co-Director & Baroque Vocal Specialist (since June 2023) at

Baroque Opera Workshop at Queens College.
