The American soprano, Suzanne Karpov-Seigert, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal performance magna cum laude from Boston University (Class of 2013); and her Master of Music degree in Opera performance from Maryland Opera Studio at University of Maryland, College Park (2013-2015). During her time at the Maryland Opera Studio, she was involved in the premiere of Derrick Wang’s Scalia/Ginsburg in which she played the role of Justice Ruth Ginsburg in the presence of Justice Ginsburg herself. In competition, she has won an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, won 1st place at the national NATS Competition in Chicago, won 2nd prize in the Classical Singer National Competition, won the Donizetti Award in the Orpheus National Vocal Competition, and received 1st Place in the Handel Aria Competition.
Hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle for her “elegant” soprano, both “incisive and tender,” Suzanne Karpov is quickly distinguishing herself as one of the country’s leading young sopranos. She recently made her Carnegie Hall debut as the soprano soloist in Francis Poulenc’s Gloria with DCINY where she was praised for her “angelic voice” by The New York Concert Review. She has also performed as Abigail in The Crucible with The Miami Summer Music Festival, and appeared in opera productions at Caramoor as an Apprentice Artist (June-July 2015).
In the 2016-2017 season, Suzanne Karpov made her debut with Washington National Opera as a Bridesmaid in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, performed with Boston Early Music Festival as a Young Artist, and performed in concert with the New Hampshire Music Festival as Madame Silberklang in W.A. Mozart's Der Schauspieldirektor. She made various soprano soloist appearances this season, most notably with the Washington Bach Consort in George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Paukenmesse with the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, and her debut with the Greenspring Valley Orchestra.
Highlights from the 2017-2018 season included her debut with the Washington Opera Society as Adina in L’elisir d’amore, performances with the Light Opera of New Jersey as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance and Yum-Yum in The Mikado, her professional debut with American Bach Soloists (Director: Jeffrey Thomas) in G.F. Handel’s Messiah, a performance of Messiah at the Kennedy Center with the Washington National Opera Orchestra, and a performance of Haydn’s The Creation with the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.
In the 2018-2019 season, Suzanne Karpov will be making her debut with The Handel and Haydn Society and with The National Philharmonic in G.F. Handel's Messiah. She will be performing with her sister Jessica Karpov (famous song-writer for artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Brittany Spears, and Demi Lovato) and the Mid-Atlantic Symphony in a special concert titled "Holiday Joy, Angelic Sisters". Since September 2013, she is Cantor/Soloist/Soprano Section Leader Church of the Resurrection in Burtonsville, Maryland. She currently lives in Alexandria, Virginia. |
