Louise Innes (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: England

The English mezzo-soprano, Louise Innes, studied at St. Antony's Leweston in Sherborne. She studied music at City University‚ the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (1994) and at the National Opera Studio.

Operatic roles include Sesto in W.A. Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito at English National Opera‚ title role in Georges Bizet's Carmen (Castleward Opera and Opera Holland Park)‚ Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (Garsington)‚ Second Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (Aix-en-Provence)‚ and Mezzo 1 in John Caskin’s God’s Liar at the Almeida Theatre and at La Monnaie. Other roles include Dido in Dido and Aeneas in Bordeaux‚ Dorabella in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte for British Youth Opera‚ Siebel in Faust with Opera de Massy‚ Rosette in Manon for Opera North‚ The Oracle in Minotaur for Scottish Opera‚ Hamor in Jephtha with Opera Fuoco (Director: David Stern) and Laura in Iolanta with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra under Alexander Lazarev. Frequent engagements with Les Solistes de Lyon include a recital of French salon music at the Musée d’Orsay with pianist Cédric Tiberghien‚ Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle in Quebec and Vancouver‚ and Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas at the Théâtre des Célestins‚ Lyon‚ Angelica in Ralph Vaughan WilliamsThe Poisoned Kiss‚ Hamor in Jephtha in Lucerne and at the The Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and Mercedes in Carmen at ROH and with Sir John Eliot Gardiner at the Opera Comique‚ Paris and the Festival de Granada.

On the concert platform Louise Innes has performed George Frideric Handel’s Messiah in Barcelona with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment‚ with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra‚ and with the National Orchestra of Seville‚ Maurice Duruflé's Requiem and L.v. Beethoven's Mass in C with the Scottish Chamber OrchestraL.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 at Aldeburgh‚ and a selection of Sibelius songs with the Kammerorchester Basel at the Folle Journée Festival in Nantes.

Recent and future engagements include the title role in Carmen and Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito for Opera North‚ Javotte in Manon (Teatro alla Scala‚ Milan‚ the Royal Opera House‚ Covent Garden and on tour in Japan)‚ Sea-Crossed in Fisherman (Hezarfen Ensemble‚ Istanbul)‚ Mrs Andersson in A Little Night Music (West Green House‚ Opera Project)‚ Miss Baggott in The Little Sweep (Blackheath Halls Opera)‚ King Galafro in Steffani’s Orlando generoso (Birmingham)‚ J.S. Bach’s Magnificat (BWV 243) at the Sage‚ Gateshead with the Royal Southern Sinfonia.

Recordings include Ino in Semele with Opera Fuoco and Second Cretan Woman in W.A. Mozart's Idomeneo with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Sir Charles Mackerras.
