The Dutch tenor and actor, screen-writer and director, Joppe van Hulzen, attended the Theatervooropleiding van de UCK (Utrechts Centrum voor de Kunsten) (2003-2004). He studied acting at ArtEZ University of the Arts Arnhem (2004-2007), where he also began singing classical music. In 2012, he went to the de Nederlandse Filmacademie. Besides his work as a writer/director he is singing right now. He takes lessons from Robert van der Vinne and Jaap Dieleman, and regularly participates in master-classes with Johannette Zomer, among others.
In 2009 he wrote and directed the short educational series Startbaan, which was included in VIA, the competence-oriented Dutch method of Deviant Publishers. In 2010, together with Joep van de Osch, he developed and directed the commercial Stop de Cultuurle Kaalslag, an indictment of the government's cultural policy. In 2010 he exhibited the photo series Ecce Homo in Arti en Amicitiae in Amsterdam. In the third year of training at the academy, he directed the film Inferno (2011). He has created and directed 3 short films: Van de Wereld (2012), Peptalk (2014), and De lange nasleep van een korte mededeling (2015).
Joppe van Hulzen also performs as a tenor soloist, singing J.S. Bach's Cantatas and the role of the Evangelist in J.S. Bach's Passions. |
