The American mezzo-soprano and voice teacher, Taryn Holback, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with Cynthia Hoffman. As an undergraduate at the Manhattan School of Music, she sang scenes from W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira), The Merry Wives of Windsor (Mrs. Ford) and W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (Contessa). In 2009, she was the youngest participant in an acting workshop with the acclaimed soprano, Lauren Flanigan. She studied with Fred Carama in New York City and Phyllis Bryn-Julson at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University. While a student at the Peabody Institute, she performed Violetta Valery in a concert production of La Traviata, portrayed Helena in a scene from Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream as well as Arabella in a scene from Richard Strauss' Arabella, and was selected to sing for world renowned baritone Thomas Hampson's master-class. She obtained her Master of Music degree (2015-2017, studying with with Ruth Falcon), and her Professional Studies Diploma from from the Mannes College of Music (2017-2019).
Additionally, Taryn Holback has been a participant in several summer programs including the Bay Area Summer Opera Theatre Institute (BASOTI), Opera on the Avalon, and the OperaWorks Emerging Artist Program. At BASOTI, she sang La Zelatrice in Suor Angelica as well as scenes from W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte (Fiordiligi), Der Frieschütz (Agathe) and Street Scene (Rose). In Summer 2013, she sang Contessa Almaviva with the Chicago Summer Opera in the festival's inaugural production of W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro. She also performed at Castleton Festival (summer 2015). She is winner of the 2020 National Council Auditions: Boston District.
Taryn Holback is also active as a voices teacher and coach. She currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland. |
