The Ecuadorian-American soprano and cellist, Abigail (Abby) Hanna, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance from the Eastman School of Music in Cello Performance (August 2021-May 2025). She has have dedicated most of her time to the Cello and was most recently the recipient of the 2024 Presser Scholar Award, nominated by the Eastman School of Music, as well as the 2023 recipient of the New York Federation of Music Award at Chautauqua Institution.
In addition to cello, Abby Hanna is a classically trained soprano since 4th grade. Her former teachers are Roberta Ricci and Christine Flasch. She received 3rd place in the National Hal Leonard Competition (February 2020) and 1st place in the High School North Central Regional NATS Competition (October 2020). In 2018, she placed 2nd in the solo division of the Chicagoland Choir Competition. She has also been a finalist in the Milwaukee Civic Music Competition (February 2019) as well as the Chicago Schmidt Competition.
Abby Hanna has a lot of formal training in Musical Theatre; performing in many productions in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has been involved in several arts organizations in Milwaukee as a singer; First Stage Children's Theater, Milwaukee Children's Choir, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, and The Florentine Opera. This involvement has also allowed her to be an advocate for the arts through the United Performing Arts Fund campaigns and events. With the Florentine, she was selected to participate in their 2019 Opera Youth Intensive. And in 2012, she was cast in La Boheme. Solo performances include performing with Milwaukee Youth Symphony's Bach Chamber Group, as well as a featured soloist with the Chamber Orchestra in the 2019 season.
Abby Hanna currently lives in Rochester, New York. In September 2025, she began her studies at Boston University. |
