The German soprano/mezzo-soprano, Kirsten Grotius, received her training in opera, concert, and Lieder in Detmold, Aachen, and Köln. Her teachers included Klesie Kelly-Moog and Kurt Moll. She furthered her studies through master-classes with, among others, Ingeborg Danz, Edith Wiens, and Thomas Heyer. She has participated successfully in numerous national and international competitions and has received scholarships from Villa Musica, the Richard Wagner Verbandes, and the Italian Cultural Institute, among others. In 2007, she completed her concert exam at the Hochschule für Musik in Köln.
Kirsten Grotius boasts an extensive concert repertoire, which has taken her to venues such as the Liederhalle Stuttgart, Kölner Philharmonie Hall, Monte Carlo Philharmonic Hall, Paris, Brussels, Reims, as well as to the Netherlands, Austria, and Hungary. She has sung under conductors including Marek Janowski, Helmuth Rilling, Jonathan Darlington, Paolo Carignani, Julia Jones, and Rainer Mühlbach.
Kirsten Grotius made her debut at the Frankfurt Opera in 2005 as the Third Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. Since then, she has appeared as Annio in W.A. Mozart's La clemenza di Tito (Theater Münster, February-April 2006), Marcellina in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Mother in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel, Countess in Der Wildschütz, Fidalma in D. Cimarosa's Il matrimonio segreto, Orsola in Il campiello, Larina in Eugene Onegin, Flower Maiden in R. Wagner's Parsifal, and Suzuki in Madame Butterfly.
Kirsten Grotius also sings in the Rundfunkchor Berlin and has been working as a vocal coach at the Darmstädter Kantorei und Singschule for several years. She is a member of the vocal ensemble Edvard Grieg Kor from Bergen, Norway |
