Wies de Greef (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: The Netherlands

The Dutch mezzo-soprano and singing teacher, Wies de Greef, obtained her Bachelor's degree cum laude in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology with minor in Gender & Sexuality Studies from the University of Amsterdam (2012-2016). She became acquainted with choir singing during her studies in Amsterdam. Her love for singing grew quickly and after completing her bachelor's degree in Cultural Anthropology, she decided to change course and opt for music. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Classical singing from Codarts Rotterdam | University of the Arts (2016-2020), where she is now studying with Henk Neven in the master's program in classical singing.

During her studies, Wies de Greef hworked as Acquisitor & Project Commissioner (March 2015-May 2016) and Producer opera choir (July 2016-May 2017) of Nederlands Studenten Kamerkoor. She is still an enthusiastic chorister and in that capacity associated with the Laurens Collegium Rotterdam and ad hoc ensembles. She has worked on projects led by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, John Eliot Gardiner, Valery Gergiev, Lahav Shani, Jan Willem de Vriend and Bas Wiegers, among others.

In the meantime Wies de Greef also focuses on the solo repertoire. For example, she sang with various oratorio societies and choirs as an alto soloist in works by J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Rossini and Jenkins, she performed Orfeo in the opera of the same name by Gluck and she is immersed in the art of song with her duo partner Myrto Tzelisi. She also works as singing teacher in Amsterdam (since October 2018).
