The French soprano, Maud Gnidzaz, acquired a strong artistic background very early: she approached the music with the flute, learned to sing in a children choir, was also trained in theater and classical dance. She participated as a soloist in children's operas organized by the Délégation à la Musique et à la Danse des Alpes Maritimes. Graduated from the École du Louvre in 2001, she also studied lyric singing with Anne-Marie Blanzat at the Conservatoire du XIIIe arrondissement de Paris. Quickly attracted by the Baroque repertoire, she enrolled at the CNR de Paris' Department of Early Music, in the classes of Kenneth Weiss, Howard Crook, Michel Laplénie and Sophie Boulin, with whom she combined singing with Baroque gestures and rhetoric. After obtaining her prize, she studied in Amsterdam with Valérie Guillorit, then with Soazig Grégoire, and recently with Elène Golgevit.
Sensitive to polyphony and ensemble work, Maud Gnidzaz has sung in several solo groups, notably Sei Voci, Les Jeunes Solistes (Director: Rachid Safir), Sagittarius (Director: Michel Laplénie). She has also performed with Arsys Bourgogne (Director: Pierre Cao) and with Le Concert d'Astrée (Director: Emmanuelle Haïm). A member of Les Arts Florissants, the ensemble of William Christie, she participated in most of the productions of the choir.
Maud Gnidzaz has appeared as a soloist under the direction of William Christie, in David et Jonathas by Charpentier (role of Jonathas), in the Motet pour une Longue Offrande by Charpentier (recorded on CD), in Anthems of Purcell, in the role of the Angel of the Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach, in Au temps de Port Royal, a program for women's voices, or in the role of the fourth fairy of Fairy Queen by Purcell. With Les Arts Florissants under the direction of Paul Agnew, she has sung several Italian and English music programs, including the Sixth Book of Madrigals by Monteverdi, and took part during 2011-2012 in the complete Madrigals Books. She sang duet Quam amarum est, Maria, by Giovanni Legrenzi, in the "Lamentazione" album, released in September 2011 on Virgin Classics.
Maud Gnidzaz can also be heard in chamber music ensembles bringing together the best musicians of the great Baroque ensembles. Her passion for the cantata and small motet repertoire led her to create the Daleth ensemble in 2011. She currenly lives in Paris, France. |
