Jennifer Gleinig (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Berlin, Germany

The German mezzo-soprano, Jennifer Gleinig, received her vocal training at the music universities of Rostock, Berlin (UdK & HfM Hanns Eisler), Lyon and Leipzig with Christine Schäfer, Julia Varady, Britta Schwarz, Monique Zanetti and Nicholas Isherwood. Her further teachers have included Janet Williams, Eric Schneider and Wolfram Rieger. She attended master-classes given by Ulf Bästlein, Gerhild Romberger, Hedwig Fassbender and Wolfgang Katschner and was participant of the Bachwoche Stuttgart under direction of Helmuth Rilling. She has been awarded several prizes and scholarships, including the Deutschlandstipendium des Bundesministeriums für Forschung und Bildung (scholarship by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research), the prestigious Yehuldi Menuhin Foundation Live Music Now and the singing competition of the Kammeroper Rheinsberg.

In 2013, Jennifer Gleinig made her debut as Kornett von Richthofen in Millöcker's Der Bettelstudent at the Staatstheater Braunschweig. Since then, engagements in opera and concert have followed at festivals such as the Händel-Festspiele Halle, where she debuted as Pulcheria in George Frideric Handel's Riccardo Primo with the Lautten Compagney Berlin conducted by Wolfgang Katschner in 2014. In 2015-2016 season, she gave her debut as Tante in HK Grubers' Opera Tales from the Vienna Woods at the Komische Oper Berlin. At the Amphithéâtre de l'Opéra de Lyon she appeared in grand héroines, giving a concert with big scenes of ancient heroines chosen of the Italian and French Baroque Operas in 2017. In further productions she sang Valetto, Amore and Nerone in Monteverdi's L’incoronazione di Poppea in Weimar and Lyon and for the the opening of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg in January 2016 in Arnold Schoenberg's Moses and Aron, conducted by Ingo Metzmacher, in co-operation with the Komische Oper Berlin. In 2019 she will appear at the Salzburg Festival (Solo-Quartett in Dusapin's Medea, conducted by Franck Ollu, 2019), the Philharmonie Berlin and George-Enescu-Festival Bukarest (Ungeborene and Kinderstimme in R. Strauss: Die Frau ohne Schatten, conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, Radio-Symphonie-Orchester-Berlin, September 2019).

Jennifer Gleinig appeared at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (2016), the DIADEMUS Festival Roggenburg (pieces of J.S. Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann, Bavaria, 2018) and the Alte Musik Fest Leipzig (Cantatas by Christoph Graupner, 2018). She has also appeared at the Liederhalle Stuttgart (J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), 2016). In 2019 Concerts will bring her to St. Nikolai Church Leipzig (J.S. Bach's Markus-Passion (BWV 247), 2019) and the French Dom Berlin with pieces of Carl Loewe). Her repertoire ranges from the early Baroque to Modern music. In 2017 she performed at the international song series klangwerk LIED in Freiburg. Feeling also settled in Modern Music, she sang in 2017 in Heinz Holliger's Siebengesang, accompanied by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra at the Koningin Elisabethzaal in Antwerp.

Jennifer Gleinig has been accompanied by ensembles such as Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Lautten Compagney Berlin, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Gaechinger Cantorey Stuttgart (Director: Hans-Christoph Rademann) in concerts in Germany. Concert-Tours brought her to South Korea, China as well as the USA. She has been working with renowned conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Heinz Holliger, Konrad Junghänel, Vladimir Jurowski (Komische Oper Berlin), Wolfgang Katschner (Handel Festival Halle), Hannu Linthu (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival), Jonathan Nott, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Jérémie Rhorer (Théatre de Champs-Elysees Paris), Helmuth Rilling, Peter Ruzicka, Jeffrey Tate, and Hendrik Vestmann (Komische Oper Berlin); as well as with directors like Robert Wilson (Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival), Lydia Steier and Barrie Kosky. Many of her concerts and performances has been recorded by radio, among others by the SWR and NDR.

Engagements in 2017-2018 season bring Jennifer Gleinig to the Lieder series klangwerk Lied in Freiburg, with Cantatas of Christoph Graupner to the Festival of Ancient Musik in Leipzig, with the Gaechinger Cantorey Stuttgart to South-America as well as to Stuttgart in December 2018 and January 2019, where she will perform the Alto-Part in J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) together with the boys’ choir Collegium Iuvenum.
