The American counter-tenor, Nicholas Matthew Garza, studied at the University of Texas at Arlington under Jing Ling-Tam and David Grogan (2010-2014).
Nicholas Garza has been a freelance tenor/counter-tenor singer since December 2010. Characterized by The Dallas Morning News as a “countertenor full and fluent, glowing on top, dispensed with the loveliest legato,” he has been hailed for intimate, engaging performances across the USA, Mexico, and Canada. An early music specialist, he has performed with ensembles including the Ars Lyrica Houston, Chicago Arts Orchestra, ensemble viii, Bach Akademie Charlotte, Spire Ensemble, Oklahoma Bach Choir & Orchestra, La folia, Austin Baroque Orchestra, Tactus, and Mountainside Baroque, among others.
In the 2021-2022 season, Nicholas Garza made his Ars Lyrica debut as the Sorceress in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and continues as alto soloist for the Oklahoma Bach Choir at Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Tulsa. Working with noted singer and conductor Simon Carrington, he was twice a singing fellow at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival of Yale University; additional festival credits include the International Cervantino, Victoria Bach Festival, Big Moose Bach, and Hawaii Performing Arts, and Bach Akademie Charlotte festivals.
A frequent performer with the American Baroque Opera Company, Nicholas Garza has sung roles including the Sorceress in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Ruggiero in George Frideric Handel's Alcina, Cortez in Antonio Vivaldi's Montezuma, and Rinaldo in G.F. Handel's Rinaldo. He also appears regularly with the Dallas Bach Society, Orpheus Chamber Singers, Orchestra of New Spain, and Incarnatus. He currently lives in n Fort Worth, Texas. |
