Sam Fleming (Choral Conductor, Organ)

Born: USA

The American composer, organist, conductor and music educator, Sam Fleming, obtained his a Bachelor of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance and Music Composition from Brigham Young University-Idaho (2012-2016); and his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Illinois State University (2017-2019). Since September 2022, he is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Kansas in Choral Conducting and Church Music (expected graduation: 2025).

Sam Fleming is known throughout the USA and parts of South America as a conductor, composer, organist, and music educator. He has held various conducting positions with community, church, and school ensembles. He is experienced as a conductor equally on the concert stage, in worship, and in musical theatre. As an organist, he has performed throughout the USA as a soloist and with several choral ensembles and chamber groups. His compositions have been commissioned and premiered by various ensembles including Brigham Young University-Idaho, Illinois State University, the Fountain of the Sun Community Chorus and the Salonnieres Chamber Ensemble of Phoenix, Arizona. His works are published through his own publishing company, SFM Publishing.

Sam Fleming has served as Associate Music Director/Accompanist of Fountain of the Sun Community Chorus in Mesa, Arizona (2016-2017); Organist and Director of Music at Grace Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Arizona (2017); Principal Organist at First Christian Church of Clinton, Illinois (2018); Assistant Choir Director & Staff Singer (2018) and Assistant Organist & Composer-in-Residence (2018-2019) at Second Presbyterian Church in Bloomington, Illinois; Music Director of Pekin Civic Chorus in Pekin, Illinois (2019-2020); Cantate Choir Conductor in Bloomington Area (2019-2020); Director of Music at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois (2019-2020); Director of Worship and Arts/Organist at First United Methodist Church in Florence, Alabama (2020-2022); and as an adjunct professor in the keyboard and choral areas at the University of North Alabama. Additionally (2021-2022). He currently serves as Director of Music and Organist at Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Kansas City, Missouri (since 2022); and is on the faculty of Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas (since August 2023). He also maintains a private studio of organ, piano, conducting, composition, and voice students.

Sam Fleming is a member of the American Guild of Organists (AGO), American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), and Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society. He currently resides in Kansas City, Missouri with his family.
