The Swiss soprano singer, pianist and musicologist, Géraldine Cloux, participated in several productions at the Grand Théâtre de Genève as a chorister with the Maîtrise du Conservatoire Populaire (Choir School of the Popular Conservatory). She then decided to pursue vocal studies alongside her university studies. She joined Claude Darbellay's class in 2006 and in 2009 entered the pre-professional vocal program of the Confédération des Ecoles Genevoises de Musique, where she obtained her certificate of study in 2012 with highest honors. During this program, she sang the role of Dido in Purcell's opera Dido & Aeneas, as well as the role of the Child in Ravel's L'Enfant et les Sortilèges with the Berner Kammerorchester under the direction of Patrick Secchiari.
Géraldine Cloux, trained at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève and the Université de Genève, where she earned a Bachelor of Music and Musicology degree in 2012, specializing in piano under Fabrizio Chiovetta. During her studies, she served on the student jury for the "Young Critics" competition at the Clara Haskil Competition in 2011. She also worked as a musicologist for the Amadeus and Cully Classique festivals.
Géraldine Cloux then pursued vocal studies, obtaining her Master of Arts degree in Vocal Pedagogy from the Haute Ecole des Arts de Bern (2012-2014), where she studied with Hans Peter Blochwitz, graduating with distinction. During this time, she participated in the Swiss Opera Studio, and obtained her specialized Master of Arts degree in Voice and Opera (2014-2016) under Professors Mathias Behrends and Franco Trinca. For four years, she participated in various productions at the Opera Studio, where she worked with director Joachim Schloemer and performed works by composers such as George Frideric Handel, Salieri, and Luciano Berio. She furthered her training through various master-classes, notably with Helen Donath, Mireille Delunsch, David Jones, and Janet Williams.
Géraldine Cloux has performed as a soloist in Camille Saint-Saëns' Oratorio de Noël, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, and L.v. Beethoven's Mass in C major with the Berner Kammerorchester, conducted by Patrick Secchiari. She In opera, she sang with Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn in Bienne (December 2014-January 2016) and Opéra de Chambre de Genève (June-July 2018). Roles have included: an Air Spirit, a Shepherdess, and a Nymph in Purcell's King Arthur in 2015, and the role of Kate Julian in Benjamin Britten's Owen Wingrave, conducted by Harald Siegel and directed by Reto Nickler at the Théâtre Orchestre Bienne Soleure, followed by the title role in Dido and Aeneas at the 2016 Toûno Festival and that of l'Enfant in 2017. She sang the Third Lady W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in July 2017 with Lyric Opera Studio of Weimar.
Géraldine Cloux could also be heard in Lieder recitals, notably at the Menuhin Forum in Bern and the Festival du Toûno in Valais (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016). |
