Bremer Kammerchor (Chamber Choir)

Founded: Bremen, Germany

In 2013, a small, privately organized choir came together under the name "manontroppo choir" to perform the complete motets of J.S. Bach in two concerts. The members came from various choirs in Bremen and elsewhere.

After an initial rehearsal phase without a choirmaster, the members engaged the Domkantor Tobias Gravenhorst for the two concerts. The collaboration with the Domkantor proved so successful and mutually enriching that the choir continued to conduct the next two rehearsal phases with Tobias Gravenhorst. To give the choir a solid foundation (and given the Domkanto's relationship with Bremer Dom), the members decided in the fall of 2014 to continue their choir project as an integral part of the cathedral music.

The Kammerchor am Bremer Dom organizes two projects per year. Its repertoire ranges from New Music (Ysang Yun) to the Early Baroque (Monteverdi's Marienvesper). The choir's stylistic focus is broad. In addition to J.S. Bach's motets, the choir's repertoire includes works by Heinrich Schütz, Charles Ives, F. Martin, Max Reger, D. Milhaud, and Francis Poulenc. The Bremer Kammerchor consists of approximately 30 members who sing together in a fixed formation for approximately two years.
