Georg A. Bochow (Counter-tenor)

Born: 1991 - Berlin, Germany

The German-born counter-tenor, Georg A. Bochow, was born half of Russian descent and as a child lived in Canada for four years. He became a counter-tenor by accident, essentially because he did not want his voice break to be true. Then he studied in Berlin with Professor Renate Faltin at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler.

Georg A. Bochow loves the operatic stage and George Frideric Handel is his all time favourite. But he also thoroughly enjoys concerts and oratorios. He owes a lot to the Lautten Compagney Berlin (Director: Wolfgang Katschner), because this Baroque orchestra was the first to allow him to explore, learn and sing beautiful music with such zest and vigour. As much as he can never sing enough Baroque music, he believes that Contemporary Music should always be given a chance and performed. He thinks of himself as a singer and a performer and he always tries to learn various forms of physical expressivity: Baroque gestures, fencing, Biomechanics... Last but not least, perhaps because he is the son of a dramaturg, he love developing concert programs with moderation and performance.
