The German soprano and singing teacher, Sarah Behrendt, studied at the Universität der Künste Berlin in the vocal classes of Anna Korondi and Professor Robert Gambill (graduating with a diploma in vocal performance/musical theatre and a Master of Music in Lied/Oratorio/Concert), at the Santa Cecilia Opera Studio in Rome, Italy, with Renata Scotto, and in the interpretation classes of Professor Axel Bauni, Professor Sayali Dadas, and Professor Wolfram Rieger (Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin). She has lived in Mannheim since 2020. Since 2016, she has received vocal coaching from Professor Thomas Heyer and Judith Lindenbaum. To further develop her chamber music skills and interpretive abilities in Lied, oratorio, and opera, she participated in master-classes with Calixto Bieito, Irwin Gage, Karoline Gruber, Krisztina Láki, Siegfried Lorenz, Sigfried Mauser, Eric Schneider, Claudia Visca, and Scot Weir. During her studies, she was a scholarship recipient of the Ottilie- Selbach- Redslob Stiftung Berlin.
Sarah Behrendt has appeared in a wide variety of roles on the opera stage. Her most important recent engagements include the Volksbühne Berlin (Villa Verdi and The 120 Days of Sodom - directed by Johann Kresnik), the Neuköllner Oper (Micaela in Georges Bizet's Carmen - directed by David Mouchtar-Samorai and Poppea in The Coronation of Poppea - directed by Hendrik Müller), the Berliner Dom (staging/choreography of J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 and Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248 - directed by Christoph Hagel), and the Staatstheater Cottbus (Fürst Pücklers Utopia). Other roles have included Blonde in W.A. Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Titania in Benjamin Brittens A Midsummer Night's Dream, Arsena in The Gypsy Baron, Papagena in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Barbarina in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, and Amahl in Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors.
As a concert singer, Sarah Behrendt performs internationally, including in China, Germany, France, Italy, Lithuania, Austria, and Poland. Important concert halls have included the Shenzhen Concert Hall, Beijing Concert Hall, Aix-en-Provence Cathedral, Lyon Cathedral, Parco della Música Roma, Teatro Polliziano Montepulciano, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, and the French and Berlin Cathedrals.
As a sought-after vocal coach, she has been working with various choirs since 2016, providing individual voice training in Germany and Italy, and lecturing at the Universität Mainz. She is the founder (September 2017) of the Ensemblesingen courses in Italy and Germany. She currently lives in Mannheim, Germany. |
