The Chilean mezzo-soprano, choral conductor and voice teacher, Cecilia Barrientos Covacich, began her vocal studies with Marianne Kunstmann in Valdivia, Chile, while simultaneously pursuing a degree in music education at the Universidad Austra. She moved to Santiago and subsequently enrolled in the Advanced Vocal Performance program at the Universidad de Chile, studying under Professor Hanns Stein and graduating with highest honors in 2005.
Cecila Barrientos has performed as a soloist in symphonic-choral works such as W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Coronation Mass, and Great Mass in C, J.S. Bach's Magnificat in D major BWV 243, and others. She has also participated in contemporary operas at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago (since June 2015) and in musicals at the Teatro Municipal de Las Condes (January 2016-2019), as well as the Teatro Municipal Temuco Camilo Salvo (since May 2017). Currently, she has recorded and premiered numerous works by Chilean and international composers at events such as Festivales de Música Contemporánea UC de la Universidad de Chile, Música Ahora de la Universidad de La Serena, Festival Darwin Vargas en Valparaíso, and Jornadas Internacionales de Interpretación Universidad de Cuyo, Mendoza, among others. She has founded and directed children's, youth, university, and workplace choirs. She has also taught courses and given talks on rehearsal methodology, introductory singing in the classroom, and vocal technique for choirs. |
