Jonathon Adams (Baritone)

Born: October 2, 1990 - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

The Canadian baritone, Jonathon Adams, studied at Victoria School Of Performing And Visual Arts in Edmonton, Alberta (Class of 2008). He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Sarah Walker, and privately with Nancy Argenta, Emma Kirkby, and Edith Wiens. He studied with Rosemary Joshua and Olivier Lallouette and pursued a masters degree in early music singing at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (until 2017). He has received instruction at the American Bach Soloists Academy in San Francisco and sung various cantatas of J.S. Bach and the Hohe Messe (BWV 232) under Jeffrey Thomas. At the Victoria Conservatory of Music (Canada) he has sung the bass roles in George Frideric Handel’s Athalia, Jephtha, Judas Maccabaeus, and Solomon, under Laurence Cummings and Steven Devine. He continud his training in 2017 during a residency with the Fondation Royaumont, working with Raphaël Pichon and Christian Immler.

As a soloist, Jonathon Adams has sung under Sigiswald Kuijken, Alfredo Bernardini, Teunis van der Zwart, Johannes Leertouwer, and appeared as Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas under Richard Egarr. He has also sung in lute song concerts with Fred Jacobs and Claron McFadden. He regularly sings the bass solos with the newly founded Stichting Dutch Baroque under Gerard de Wit, also in the Kloosterkerk cantata series with the Residentie Bach Ensemble under Jos Vermunt. He works as a choral singer in the Amsterdam Baroque Choir (since December 2016), under Ton Koopman; has been a member of The Theatre of Early Music, led by Daniel Taylor, and held positions at St. James Cathedral, Toronto, Christ Church Cathedral, Victoria, and the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul, Montréal. He lives currently in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and performs in concerts, such as the Stichting Bachcantates Tilburg (Director: Arjan van Baest), and Luthers Bach Ensemble in Groningen (Director: Tymen Jan Bronda) in 2017.
