Hansje van Welbergen (Soprano)

Born: May 12, ____ - Tilburg, the Netherlands

The Dutch soprano, Hansje van Welbergen, has been singing from a young age and has developed an enormous passion for it. She went to the Conservatorium in Tilburg and, after her studies in music education, followed a master's degree in music classical theater music at Fontys Fine and Performing Arts in Tilburg (2014-2019). Her main subject teacher was Harry Ruijl and she also took singing lessons with Maartje Rammeloo and Miranda van Kralingen. In 2019 she graduated from her master studies in Tilburg. In addition to and after her studies, she took several master-classes and lessons with, among others: Jard van Nes, Xenia Meijer, Sarah Rhodes, Mark van Nispen, Corina van Eijck, Peggy Hegeman and Kurt Widmer.

At school, Hansje van Welbergen sang parts from Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle as a soprano soloist (2017) and the second lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (2018). She already took her first steps in the field during her education. She sang in the choir at Opera Spanga (June 2018) and Opera Zuid (April-July 2019). During an internship with the Groot Omroepkoor she performed Verdi's Quatro pezzi sacri at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam (2019).

In addition to concerts as a soloist, Hansje van Welbergen has performed two operetta roles in 2019: the role of Usher in Trial by Jury (Gilbert & Sullivan with Muzemento in Goirle) and Public Opinion in Orpheus in the Underworld (Offenbach with La Mascotte in Emmeloord). In 2020 she made her film debut in the opera film: The Other by Opera Spanga. There, in addition to an ensemble part, she also sang the role of the Jewish child. She was featured as a candidate in the television program aria on NPO 1 and sang O Mio Babbino Caro. She can currently be seen as Queen of the Moon in the Offenbach production Le Voyage dans la Lune by BarokOpera Amsterdam (2022).

Hansje van Welbergen has given beautiful concerts in the oratorio repertoire. As a soloist she has contributed to J.S. Bach Cantata BWV 93 (June 2022), Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria and Magnificat and César Franck's Die Sieben Worte Jesu am Kreuz, among others. From July 2022, she is working as a freelance singer at the Groot Omroepkoor in Hilversum. She currently livs in Tilburg, the Netherlands.
