Jens Paulus (Baritone, Choral Conductor)

Born: 1979 - Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

The German baritone and choral conductor, Jens Paulus, studied from 1999 to 2005 music education and singing at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart. At the same time, he also studied German studies at the Universität Stuttgart. He received significant impulses in the field of singing from Professor Michiko Takanashi, Professor Friedemann Röhlig and Professor Dunja Vejzovic.

In recent years, Jens Paulus has specialized in the oratorio area and listed all important oratorios from the Baroque through Romantic to modern times. He has performed in concerts all over Germany. In Trient he sang the Stabat Mater by Joseph Haydn, in Cologne and in the Altenberg Dom the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré. He performed several times at the Brahmsnacht in Obermarchtal, including the solo parts in Charles Gounod's Requiem and the Petite messe solennelle by Rossini. The Requiem by Johannes Brahms has led him to Düsseldorf, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg, among others. He has sung J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) in many performances, for example, with the award-winning Christophorus Kantorei Altensteig. In Munich and Nürtingen, he was heard with Martinu's Gilgamesch-Epos, conducted by Felix Schuler-Meybier, also in 2015 for the first time in Messa di Gloria by Puccini. Last year (2016), in addition to numerous projects with the Gächinger Kantorey, he sang J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) in Möckmühl.

In 2017, Jens Paulus was heard as a soloist, among others, in performances of these works: Loewe's Das Sühneopfer des neuen Bundes (Ingelfingen); Distler's Choralpassion (Ludwigsburg); J. Haydn's Die Schöpfung (Ulm, Stuttgart); J. Haydn's Paukenmesse (Waiblingen); Felix Mendelssohn's Paulus (Köngen, Stuttgart); Spohr's, Die letzten Dinge (Balingen, Überlingen, Reutlingen); Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Magnificat (Schorndorf).

In addition to his solo career, Jens Paulus is a regular member of the Gaechinger Cantorey under its current director Hans-Christoph Rademann and Vocalensembles Rastatts (Director: Holger Speck).

For several years now Jens Paulus has also devoted himself increasingly to choral conducting and is the director of the Esslinger Vocalensembles (since 2012) and the Kammerchors der Neuapostolischen Kirche in Stuttgart (since 2010). He currently lives in Stuttgart.
