Kansas City Baroque Consortium (Instrumental Baroque Ensemble)

Founded: 2016 - Kansas City, Missouri, USA

In December of 2015, Trilla Ray-Carter completed the Artist INC Advanced program for artist entrepreneurship and was awarded $1000, voted by her peers, for best project proposal. A year later, working with a fantastic board of directors, Kansas City Baroque Consortium (= KCBC) launched this project as a new summer series! The inaugural season was a great success as the reviews attest! They have now completed their second season with critical acclaim, and they have seen their audiences grow with every concert! With period performances of early music as their spring board, they are exploring the connections between past and future, between a variety art forms, and across eras. In their second season they have initiated an educational outreach program, and continued our "New Music for Old Instruments" commissioning program.

KCBC participates regularly in exciting collaborations with local and regional organizations bringing a wide variety of early music to the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Highlights include performances with:
• Te Deum Antiqua Chamber Choir in Dietrich Buxtehude’s Jesu Membra Nostri in February.
• American Choral Director’s SW Conference included three performances for KCBC with local and regional choirs in March at Helzberg Hall.
• PASTICCIO, a program of Baroque delicacies presented on several recital series including the Westport Brown Bag Series, JCCC Ruel Joyce Series, and this Spring to be presented in St. Louis, in Louisville, Kentucky on the Locust Grove Series, and here in Kansas City on March 16 for the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Happy Hour Series!
J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245) in April of 2016 at featured Te Deum Chamber Choir, and Village Chamber Choir with KCBC in a stunning performance under the direction of Matthew Christopher Shepard.
Charpentier's Te Deum with Musica Vocale, under the direction of Arnold Epley in June of 2017.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Kansas City Baroque Consortium continues to bring to their community the beloved masterworks and the rarely heard gems of the Baroque era, from the 16th to 18th centuries, produced and performed on period instruments by the fine local and regional professional musicians. They are especially pleased to present an annual three-concert series, "Between Silence And Light". Trilla Ray-Carter's vision for this series is personal, inspired by the writings and thinking of the great architect, Louis Kahn, and the journey of finding one's artistic voice.
