Madeline Healey (Soprano)

Born: Cleveland, Ohio, USA

The American soprano, Madeline Apple Healey, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music (2011); and her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy with distinction from Westminster Choir College (2013). She was Norfolk Chamber Choir Festival Vocal Fellow (2012), and CoOPERAtive Fellow (2012), Westminster Chamber Choir Festival soloist (2011, 2012), and studied at Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute (2008, 2009) and the International Baroque Institute at Longy (2009). She also participated in master-classes with Roger Vignoles, Julianne Baird, Juliana Gondek, Laura Heimes, Andrew Megill, Elizabeth Bishop, Danielle Orlando, Joann Kulesza, Lori Laitman, Kathleen Kelly, Chuck Hudson, and Gina Lapinski.

"Silken-voiced" (Cleveland Plain Dealer) Madeline Healey is known for her “gorgeous singing" (Washington Post) and “fetching combination of vocal radiance and dramatic awareness” (Cleveland Plain Dealer). Recent engagements have included appearances at Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Aldeburgh Festival/Snape Proms, Carnegie Hall, Amherst Early Music Festival, the Kennedy Center, National Opera House in Wexford, Ireland, premieres at National Sawdust, Lincoln Center’s White Light Festival, Spoleto Festival USA, Ad Astra Festival, and PROTOTYPE Festival, as well as collaborations with Urban Playground Chamber Orchestra, Variant 6, and les soûls d'amour. Specializing primarily in early and contemporary repertoire, Madeline is passionate about polyphony and loves working on music that challenges the construct of beautiful sound.

Madeline Healey is equally at home in standard repertoire, and operatic credits include Olympia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) a role in which she was praised for her “crystal clear coloratura” (Princeton Town Topics), La Musica/Ninfa in L'Orfeo, Hébé in Les Indes galantes, Papagena in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Despina in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, Susanna in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, and Cunegonde in L. Bernstein's Candide.

Madeline Healey is a member of the GRAMMY-nominated Choir of Trinity Wall Street (Director: Julian Wachner), co-founder of AMPERSAND (weareampersand.net), a vocal chamber ensemble that prioritizes the work of female artists, and appears internationally as a soloist and ensemble singer. She has performed with The American Classical Orchestra, Academy of Sacred Drama, Amor Artis, Apollo's Fire (Director: Jeannette Sorrell), Philadelphia Bach Collegium, The Clarion Music Society, les soûls d'amour, Novus NY, New York Baroque Incorporated, Rebel Baroque Orchestra, Skylark, Choir of St. Luke in the Fields, The Thirteen, TENET (Director: Jolle Greenleaf), and Variant 6.

Madeline Healey now resides in Brooklyn, New York, where, when she's not making music, she can be found baking cakes, eating french fries, rock climbing, and tending to her houseplants.
