Rainer Grämer (Bass-Baritone)

Born: Kronach, North Bavaria, Germany

The German bass-baritone, Rainer Grämer, attended the University in Erlangen, Germany. Whils there, he studied with Norma Lerer, Nese Pars, Manfred Capell and Dr. Z. Edmund Toliver. After he moved to London, UK, in 1991 he continued his musical studies with David Mason, Ian Massa-Harris and most recently with Richard Edgar-Wilson.

Rainer Grämer sang in the extra choir at Bayreuth in the 1980's. He he had solo appearances in Aschaffenburg, Schweinfurt, Forchheim, Erlangen, Nürnberg and Haßfurt while he lived in Germany. In the 1980's and 1990's he attended several master-classes under Hanno Blaschke. He was a member of the church choir of St. Peter’s, Streatham from 2010 until 2014 when he moved to Norfolk. In 1992, he appeared on BBC Radio with the Gabrieli Consort under the direction of Paul McCreesh. While living in London he sang with the Philharmonia Chorus, and was a member of the BBC Symphony Chorus, New London Singers, OSJ Voices and the London Philharmonic Choir. In October 2008, he sang in Coburg L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and in December 2009 he sang in his birth town Haydn’s Creation. In October 2013, he sang in Kronach and Coburg in Bruckner's Te Deum and W.A. Mozart's Coronation Mass. In April 2014, he sang Jesus in J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) in London under Philip Collin. On Good Friday in the following years he sang Jesus in Georg Philipp Telemann's St. John Passion, J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244), G.F. Handel: Brockes Passion, HWV 48 and Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel's Brockes-Passion in Kronach. This year (2018) he will sing Jesus in J.S. Bach's St. John’s Passion (BWV 245) in Kronach. Together with his pianist Christopher Moore they performed Schubert's Winterreise in February and March 2018 in Norwich Cathedral, Diss St Mary, Bury St Edmunds Friends Meeting House and St Peter and Paul in Aldeburgh.
